As the Regional Structured Trading Systems Policy, Market Integration, Peer Learning and Exchange Forum enters its third day, we reflect on yesterday’s engaging breakout sessions, which focused on strengthening regional grain trade and advancing market integration.
Discussions explored key challenges affecting structured trading systems across the region, including divergent legal and regulatory frameworks, unharmonized commodity standards, limited digital market integration, inadequate warehousing infrastructure, and barriers to commodity financing.
Participants highlighted priority actions to address these challenges, including digitizing warehouse receipts, harmonizing commodity quality standards, strengthening digital market integration, expanding warehousing infrastructure, and improving access to affordable financing for farmers.
The discussions underscored the importance of collaboration among governments, regulators, financial institutions, standards-setting bodies, and Regional Economic Communities in building more efficient, inclusive, and interconnected grain markets.
As the forum continues, attention remains on translating these discussions into practical solutions that strengthen structured trading systems and advance regional grain trade.
