Institutional demand was strong enough to keep crypto advancing in September. Every rally ran into the same wall of oil, inflation and bond yields.
The data underneath the headline tells a more nuanced story. 🧵
2/
Here are the top developments that stood out in September:
1️⃣ The Federal Reserve raised rates for the first time since 2023, to 3.75–4.00%
2️⃣ The Senate voted 50–49 to advance the CLARITY Act, ten votes short of the required threshold
3️⃣ The SEC created a five-year exemption for genuine tokenised US equities
3/
September finished with Bitcoin caught between two powerful forces: improving crypto-specific demand and adoption on one side, and unusually expensive global capital on the other.

Bitcoin just had its strongest month since 2024. It's still down for the year, and it still lost to three other coins.
The data underneath the headline tells a more nuanced story. 🧵
8/ ⚠️
Bitcoin failed at $81,265 on August 25 and $81,480 on August 28 — the same band that rejected May's rally at $82,814. Roughly 8% of total supply was acquired in that $80,000-$82,000 zone, which also holds the 50-week moving average and the aggregate cost basis of a significant share of US ETF holders.
9/
The regime call: constructive on demand, constrained on price. The demand problem has eased. The price-clearing problem hasn't.
The open question for September is whether a break above $82,000 comes on strong spot volume without an accompanying open interest spike.
