This is from an insider. Take heed. Losing the House matters a lot.
Do you want to know what's at stake this November?
Right now, House committee dems are developing ideas for potential oversight actions (hearings, leg items, reports, etc). They are preparing *now* for a win in November, so they can begin a full court press in January.
This will cover every department and agency action from the routine (eg reprogramming funds from pet programs) to the more involved (Maduro, cartel strikes, etc). The House has historically been the chamber dedicated to the theater portion of “political theater” but if the Dems win, expect it to look like a musical of organized chaos.
There will be a lot of throwing things at the wall to see what sticks. And committee leaders will use their positions to figure out what attacks are resonating and which ones aren’t. The focus will be more on the bread and butter issues: healthcare, affordability, etc. And expect House Dems to come together on legislative items to push that message on bills that will allow them to make Senate Rs look like they are against making living more affordable for American workers.
The culture wars will also be on the table, but it will be focused less on making points you'd hear from the Western Mass covid conscious bar patrons, and more on constituencies that have traditionally represented core voting blocks for Dems (women, minorities, etc). To the extent there will be any DSA-esque talking points mirrored- it will be those intersectionality issues that connect class-conscioussness with race-consciousness, and framed in subtle and not-entirely-accurate ways like "the disappearing Black middle class."
And because no member of this administration will want to cooperate with any policy and/or character assassination attempts by the House, expect support for these efforts from the usual suspects and new players of DC think tanks and advocacy orgs. [Side note: a good tell of whether a "Committee Report" is substantively driven vs theater driven: is it authored by both sides or just one (with minority views), does it lift whole passages or policy points from outside orgs, and was any agency involved in creating it?]
To the extent the American people want to see a focus on real, workable policies that *actually* help families and working class Americans, do not look to the House. Assuming the House does flip, and the Senate stays like it (with possibly thinner margins), you can expect even less (no, don't laugh) from Congress next year.

OTD in 1942, the @uspto granted Chester Carlson a patent for what we now call photocopying. Years later, Carlson's invention of "xerography" would become the mainstay of @Xerox. patents.google.com/patent/US… nitter.cf/AjitPai/status/1319384…
OTD in 1938, Chester Carlson and Otto Kornei put a glass slide with writing on it on a zinc plate coated with sulfur and exposed it to light. They then managed to transfer the image to wax paper. It was the 1st photocopy—a process Carlson called "xerography," which led to @Xerox.

This is insane. Every country thinks if you step outside in America you will be shot. But Canada can go around murdering their citizens en masse to save on healthcare costs.

But for REALLY amazing beer trucks you've got to tip your lid to our Canuck neighbors to the north. They weren't saddled with Prohibition, thus giving them a head start on crazy beer truck technology. Most notably Labatt's, with their longrunning fleet of streamline White beer rigs designed by the mysterious Russian Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky. There were 4 series of these, beginning in 1933. #1 shows a 1937 Series 2, #2 is a 1947 Series 4.
But the smaller Canadian brewery O'Keefe's countered with their own streamliner. It's sort of a crapshoot to determing this custom's make & model of chassis, but wheel hubs kinda look like White as well.
But hey, America some streamlined sudsmobiles. Rainier up the PNW had a fleet. And how about the custom 1941 Dodge COE for Miller High Life?
Kitty!
🐾 Meet the cutest crew in South Florida!
👀 This momma panther and her four playful kittens were spotted on a wildlife cam, and we're paws-itively smitten.
🌿 This sighting is a promising sign for the Florida Panther. These iconic animals and many more depend on the health of Florida’s ecosystems.
❗ Remember to keep your distance from all wildlife for your safety and theirs.

I had the pleasure of meeting Penny Wilbanks, whose story truly inspired me! ❤️🎀 Penny has run a marathon in all 50 states, and just four days after completing her 76th marathon, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Imagine going from crossing finish lines to suddenly facing chemotherapy and radiation. But Penny refused to let cancer stop her. She continued running and working out throughout treatment, and now she’s preparing for her next marathon in November! What made meeting her even more special is that we share a love for traveling to all 50 states. Her message to others facing cancer is simple: Keep pushing forward. Your journey isn’t over, and there are still finish lines waiting for you. Please keep Penny in your prayers as she continues her journey. ❤️ Be sure to check out their video in my next post.

Totino's Triple Cheese Party Pizza has three imitation cheeses on it. The ingredient list names imitation mozzarella, imitation Monterey Jack and imitation cheddar.
FDA rules say a food made to substitute for and resemble another food has to be called imitation if it's nutritionally inferior to the real thing. Imitation cheese replaces some of the milk fat and milk protein with vegetable oil and starch, which costs less and still melts.

.@CBPPortDirJFK K9 Rowdy had a busy day at JFK! He alerted to a bag from Ghana with 72 lbs of yams, veggies, and spices—all prohibited. Thanks to Rowdy, these items were stopped at the border. Who’s a good dog? 🐶🦴

Today, I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Gentry, whose breast cancer was discovered after a terrible car accident. Imagine recovering from a serious accident while being told you also have cancer. Mrs. Gentry underwent surgery and 26 radiation treatments, but she refused to let cancer break her spirit. Through faith, determination, and a positive attitude, she kept going. Her message to others is simple: Never give up, keep your faith, and don’t let cancer stop you from living. ❤️🎀 Be sure to check out their video in my next post.

This stop on my 50-state mowing tour is deeply personal because Dr. Kim Thomas-Phillips isn’t just a breast cancer survivor I’m interviewing, she’s my aunt, and she’s currently battling Stage 3 breast cancer. Despite never missing her annual mammogram, her diagnosis came as a shock. Her message to women, especially those with dense breasts, is to advocate for themselves and ask their doctors about additional screening. Through it all, her faith and family keep her going. Every morning, she wakes up to encouraging messages, prayers, and Bible verses from loved ones. Seeing my own aunt face this battle reminds me why this tour means so much. ❤️🎀

Starting next year, most Americans will apply for their passport entirely online. A revolution in how government works for the American people. The Trump Administration is making government simpler, faster, and more accessible.
