An add-to-cart link can fire before anyone clicks it.
@WordPress 6.8 and newer print speculation rules, and prerender runs the next page, scripts and all. Anything that acts when merely opened will act.

WordPress behind Cloudflare, so the HTML is cached at the edge? Not by default.
blog.mozilla.org passes Core Web Vitals with real visitors, and its HTML still came from the origin, not the edge (cf-cache-status: DYNAMIC).
First byte 217ms.

Your object cache is configured. Is it serving?
We audited 16 sites on our own xSpeed Hub account: Redis configured on all 16, the drop-in installed and serving on 12.
A quarter had a backend set and nothing using it.
The audit:

Site fast for visitors, dashboard slow for you?
Site Health warns once your autoloaded options pass 100,000 bytes. But @WordPress will autoload a single option up to 150,000.
One row can outweigh the whole set's limit. Audit wp_options.

A speed tool told you to move from gzip to brotli?
We fetched 159 WordPress documents twice and proved the bytes identical. The brotli was bigger than the site's own gzip on 31.4%.
Median brotli gain: 1.29 KB. Compressing at all: 184.3 KB.

Turned on lazy loading and your LCP got worse?
You lazy-loaded the hero. The browser now delays the exact element the metric measures.
Eager-load First N Images defaults to 1. Raise it if your design stacks several images above the fold.

Same page scoring 95 on desktop and 65 on mobile?
We scanned wordpress.org, on WordPress 7.2-beta3 and nginx.
Lighthouse LCP: 1.2s desktop, 7.6s mobile.
Real visitors (p75): 2.2s and 2.9s.
The lab spread is the one that is not real.

Quoted a caching plugin's price to a client last week?
Nine pricing pages, seven readings, ten changes since 26 September. Not one was a price.
The refunds, trials and renewal rules moved instead, and one headline price expires 3 November.

Turned on Delay JavaScript and the menu is dead?
First: load the page, move the mouse once, then click. If it opens, nothing is broken.
Still dead after two seconds is real. Then exclude that one file by full URL, never a keyword:

Every cache plugin roundup is written by somebody who sells one. Ours too.
So we scored 11 plugins on 7 criteria twice. Unweighted we come first on 12. Weight directory track record and three rivals reach 13. We come fourth.

Caching is on, you purged, and not a single page caches?
Check Settings > Permalinks. On "Plain" nothing caches at all: the page cache keys its files on the URL path, and Plain gives it none.

Mobile PageSpeed says your LCP is 25 seconds and not one visitor has ever complained?
We scanned techcrunch.com, WordPress 6.9.11 behind Cloudflare. First byte 70ms. The throttled mobile run measured LCP 25,605ms.
Real mobile visitors: 1,406ms.

Clicked Enable in Redis Object Cache and the page just reloaded, saying nothing?
In 3.0.0 the Enable handler sits behind a filesystem check with the silence flag set. No copy, no error, no message.

Added the checkout exclusion after you turned caching on?
The cart pages already on disk are still served. An exclusion decides what gets STORED, not what gets served, our default lifetime is 168 hours.

Your speed test says the site is clean. Does Google agree?
Of 89 WordPress sites our own scanner called clean, 40 fail Core Web Vitals on real visitors.

Unused CSS is on, the page looks fine, then the menu opens unstyled?
A class your JavaScript adds on click is invisible to static analysis. .is-open looks exactly like dead CSS, so it is pruned.
Safelist the class, don't switch it off:

"We installed a cache plugin" is not the same as "the page came from cache."
Across 2,129 WordPress sites in the public xSpeed Scan archive with a cache plugin detected, 593 still answer the first byte slower than 600ms.
More than one in four.

One page that never finishes rendering, sent back every few minutes, holding a browser each time?
xSpeed Hub v1.6.5: after three timeouts in a row that page now rests an hour, then three, then twelve from the fifth.

Redis says connected, object cache is on, and nothing is ever cached?
On managed hosting that is almost always a Cache key prefix that does not match the namespace your host granted. Every write is refused.

Every image on the page is WebP and it still weighs megabytes?
Twelve photographs at 4000px, one Pillow run at quality 82: WebP saved a median 38.4% of the bytes. Left as JPEG and resized to 800px, 92.8%.
