The relationship between Somaliland and the @UN is much like the unethical practice of ghost authorship where junior researchers are excluded from the author list. The UN uses Somaliland's portfolio to enrich failed Somalia's progress reports.

I blame the foreign bureaucrats who arenโ€™t honest enough to admit they made a mistake and then leave the problem and move on to the next chapter in their careers and new a bureaucrat picks up where the last left off. Itโ€™s a rotating door with no one owning the problem which allows people like HSM to continually lie. Hargeisa needs to understand they are the experts and to finally end the charade by leading and not following. We donโ€™t need anyone to tell us about our democracy or our peace and security. Thru primary sources, videos and with my own two eyes I am witness to what you and other heroes have done. Imagine a world first a completely indigenous DDR program and the international community has failed to seize on this Somaliland miracle. Instead @UNDPPA has been attempting to poach our ideas and concepts and replicate it in Somalia which has become a failed experiment Inshallah I never want to see a foreign diplomat attempt to lecture us

The primary reason Ethiopia remains landlocked in 2026 is Ethiopia itself. In January 2024, Somaliland offered a viable pathway to the sea. Ethiopia willingly walked away from that deal. Diplomatic hubris and indecisiveness squandered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

The Government of the Republic of Somaliland firmly rejects the misleading claims made by the Somalian President and reaffirms Somalilandโ€™s sovereignty, state continuity, and exclusive authority over its foreign relations. Read the full statement ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿพ mfagovsomaliland.org/news/30โ€ฆ

@HillelNeuer of @UNWatch spoke out yesterday at the United Nations for the six Somalilanders kidnapped and tortured by Somalia. He also spoke out for the human rights of 6.5 million Somalilanders. As has been the case for decades, the United Nations brushed off his concerns and urged all speakers to erase Somaliland from the discussion and stick to their Mogadishu focused agenda. In the 1980s, the UN used the confidential 1503 procedure to discuss the crimes against humanity and genocide committed against the Isaaq people, instead of sounding the alarm as the Israeli mission at the United Nations had done. In the 1990s, after the discovery of mass graves, a UN report confirmed that genocide had been committed by Somalia. Yet this brought no further action from the United Nations despite the pleas from Somaliland human rights organizations and the highest office due to the fact that many of perpetrators were spread out across western nations. On September 11, 2001, the independent human rights expert for Somalia sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan requesting a war crimes commission like those for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda; the request was ignored. The bureaucrats at the United Nations would much prefer that the people and the Republic of Somaliland cease to exist, but that will never happen, despite their best efforts.

To correct some misconceptions, I attended the ongoing 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council, where Somaliaโ€™s human rights situation is once again under review, and delivered a statement on FGM and womenโ€™s rights. Somalia is failing its people. What was particularly depressing was hearing its response: a request for more money. Shamefully, rather than holding Somalia accountable, other members focused on Israelโ€™s recognition of Somaliland. It was also frustrating that Somaliland was absent from a room where it should have been advocating for itself. We cannot afford to leave others to speak about us without challenging them. When Somalia is there, Somaliland is never at the table, but always on the menu.

Four days after Israel recognized Somaliland, Erdogan vowed to preserve Somalia's unity "in all circumstances." @MadeySiyad in MEF Observer: Hargeisa should bar Turkish consular staff from Berbera and demand reciprocity, or close the consulate.

This is how nations deal with habitual line steppers, which should've been the fate of the Turkish consulate in Hargeisa a long time ago. @Abdirahmanirro @khadarlooge.
#Breaking: #Ethiopia declares #Egyptian diplomat persona non grata, orders him to leave within 48 hours Addis Abeba โ€” Ethiopiaโ€™s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declared an Egyptian diplomatic staff member, Ahmed Moharam Ahmed Soliman, persona non grata and ordered him to leave the country within 48 hours. In a diplomatic note dated 1 October 2026 and addressed to the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Addis Ababa, the ministry said the decision was taken in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. โ€œThe Ministry hereby notifies the Embassy that Ahmed Moharam Ahmed Soliman has been declared persona non grata,โ€ the letter states. It adds that the ministry โ€œexpects the Embassyโ€™s diplomatic staff member to leave Ethiopia within Forty-Eight (48) hours from the date of this notification.โ€ The letter does not state Solimanโ€™s diplomatic title or role at the Egyptian Embassy. It also does not provide a reason for the persona non grata designation or identify any alleged conduct underlying the decision. The diplomatic note was formally addressed to the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Addis Ababa and signed and stamped by Ethiopiaโ€™s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

โ€œSayla Guyaal Badanโ€ my English Translation. Sayla was written in 1978 by Somalilandโ€™s very own Xassan Xaji Cabdullahi (Xassan Ganey), Sayla beautifully captures Somalilandโ€™s pastoral life, culture and traditions. Sung by the late Mujaahid Sahra Axmed Jaamac and Xassan Aadan Samatar. A fun fact: during a BBC interview, Xassan Aadan Samatar was asked to name his favourite song from his career. He chose Sayla and also spoke fondly of Sahra Axmed as his favourite artist to collaborate with. Thereโ€™s something special about knowing that a song so loved by listeners also held such a special place for the artists who brought it to life. Youโ€™ll notice that I pronounce โ€œsangeโ€ as โ€œsaangeโ€ in the video, which is incorrect. I had the laxan (melody) stuck in my head while recording, hence the slip! #Somaliland #Somalilandhomeofmusicandpoetry #Sayla

I have strong suspicions that the entities tasked with drafting Somaliland's constitutional amendments and other key documents lack the necessary domain expertize and then resort to using LLMs. Not only is this unethical, but it creates reckless loopholes.

Absolute rubbish! Groups qualifying under this new law, which the original law excluded (rightfully so), tell you who the amendment serves. We stand by and observe the transfer of the countryโ€™s constitutional citizenry.
The House of Representatives of the Republic of #Somaliland was formally presented with a parliamentary committee report detailing major structural amendments to the Somaliland Citizenship Law (Law No. 22/2002). The proposed legislation expands the existing law from a brief 14-article framework into a comprehensive 46-article statuteโ€”adding 32 new legal clauses, according to the Chairman of the House Committee on Internal Affairs. From the beaches of Normandy to the streets of Detroit to Yonkers Somalilanders were some of the earliest East African immigrants to North America. Unfortunately our history has been erased and tied to the failed state of Somalia and wiped out. Somalians arrived in the 1990s in mass but Somalilanders were in the united states since the late 1800s starting out as sailors from ports such as Cardiff and Liverpool. Somalilandโ€™s current deputy ambassador to the United States is a second generation American whose father served and was at d-day. Officer Abdi Ali if Yonkers was born to father from Somaliland and his story like many other early Somalilanders has been erased and replaced by Somalians. Somalilanders have a long history in the United States @grok
In Commemoration of the 80th anniversary of D-Day invasion, my father Mohamed Meri from British Somaliland was among the US Army Soldiers who landed in Normandy on D-Day. He was one of the only known Somali soldiers in the United States Army in WWII.

President Cirro's performance last night at CFR was not perfect. But it was 100% better than what we saw at Hudson Institute. You could tell the president and his team took Somalilanders' criticism onboard and actually prepared this time. The result was a far more disciplined and credible performance. Let's remember, there were many misguided voices on the timeline saying we should not criticise what was a terrible performance, that we should cover up a clear lack of preparation, and perhaps wait for the president to return before discussing how he did. They probably mean well, but last night's sharper, more robust, and better-prepared showing proved them wrong. You do not protect failure. This culture of excusing incompetence is precisely what has harmed Somaliland's politics for years. It allows politicians to damage our hard-earned reputation with impunity, shielded by loyal crowds who let them get away with anything. I want my country to do better. I want my president to do better. But when a glaring lack of preparation damages Somalilandโ€™s standing on the world stage, it must be called out immediately. The standard should be simple: praise good work, and relentlessly challenge ineptitude. That is how we course-correct.. we saw this play out in real time last night. Let this be a teachable moment.
