I invite you to watch my #TEDx talk about the invisibility #patients and #caregivers face in HC settings and the power of a #90SecondEncounter. I believe patients and caregivers belong at the center of every HC team & that genuine connection is key. youtu.be/0bcVfiI1zeM

12/ I cry every time I think about the kindness extended to me by that protective team. But especially the courageous way that intern permitted me to advocate for my own wellness. Yeah. I will remember that as one of the most powerful teachable moments I've ever had.

10/ Her: "Have someone else cover this team. You need to be where your dad is." She wasn't backing down. And the rest of team trained their eyes on me in tender solidarity. Her: "Do what you would make us do." And there was no comeback for that. Nope.

9/ And they held space with me in that room as I released those tired, scared tears. They did. But that intern. That sweet, brave intern. She stood up and came right up to me. Her: "Go home, Dr. Manning. Home to your dad and your family. You need to be there. Like, now."

Explaining the trauma we experience to our family is challenging Trying to explain how we’re able to see traumatic things without it ruining us is more challenging I’ve learned that while I need that skill to do my job, I also need to process trauma to be human. #Medtwitter

I FULLY support this and have taken the same approach, particularly as a self-employed physician entrepreneur. Kudos, @DrTiffJohnson. 👏🏾👏🏾
I felt VERY uncomfortable sending this email…but working on normalizing compensating Black women for their labor and acknowledging that I need to prioritize rest to do this important work (and therefore have to stop agreeing to give talks at 4:45 or 5am)

Themes from this week's @CaringAcrossGen's Care Fellowship Interviews: 1. Gendered familialism isn't fair 2. Care happens at the intersections of identity 3. We need to abolish the barriers to accessible, affordable, equitable care This is why #CareCantWait! #MillennialCaregiver

When I have the opportunity to honor my father’s memory, share his plight with CKD/ESRD, provide the family caregiver perspective, AND talk about health inequities it is a VERY good day! Thank you to @KidneyFund for hosting this powerful summit!
Thank you to all who participated in our morning panel and breakout discussions for the AKF Patient Access Initiative Summit. Today's topics include patient and caregiver burden, FDA challenges and improving insurance practices.

Check out the latest episode of "Bold Conversations"! @GoldenSherita and I have a frank conversation about medical mistrust among patients/communities of color. Spoiler- the responsibility to restore trust is NOT on the patient. @IDFCommunity on.soundcloud.com/DgHyv

The dialogue felt beautiful + without judgement. In medicine we often have a barrier between us + our patients. We speak as if we’ve had no experiences- no matter how similar they may be. In mutually sharing stories, I felt more connected than ever before. 4/4 @JennaMillerKC

Instead of showing me your diversity statement, show me your hiring data, your discrimination claim stats, your salary tables, your retention numbers, your diversity policies, and your leaders’ public actions against racism. End performative allyship.

In my 10+ years of co-survivorship, doing life with @DGlaucomflecken through 2 separate cancers, 1 SCA and fighting off his death with 10 mins of #CPR, only ONE (1) of the medical professionals we interacted with has ever asked how I was doing. Meet Roger. authors.elsevier.com/a/1giY0…
