Golden Proscenium/ 泉州金色大幕 [Wutopia Lab | Renovation 2019] by YU Ting (@yuting0523)
⚜️The Golden Proscenium is the last chapter we would share this week about the COLORFUL PERFORATED ALUMINUM PLATES.
We were inspired by Fu Jian grand wedding ceremony and chose the gold perforated aluminum plates as façade. Only gold can express the glorious history of Quanzhou as the first port in the Far East and the strategic pass that effectively occupied Xinmen Street. At night, gold gives the building a translucent veil, and Quanzhou's city flower, Erythrina japonica, quietly blooms above this curtain.
The continuity and unity of the facade form a controlled expreIt.The Golden Proscenium is a micro-renovation based on local emotions and a manifesto made in a dramatic way.

"Metal is a material that can well carry my concepts and emotions." —— YU Ting (@yuting0523)
This week, we would like to introduce the most commonly used material in Wutopia Lab's works —— PERFORATED ALUMINUM PLATE through three projects: Toyou Book, Models in Model, and Golden Proscenium.
We dispel the materiality of the metal by using perforated aluminum or steel plates so that the metal will visually present a sense of veil, combining with paint to create complex visual, light, and shadow effects.

Toyou Books / 二酉书店 [Wutopia Lab | Bookstore 2021]
In Toyou Books, the continuous burgundy perforated aluminum plates forming the caves and the bookshelves forming various corners and spaces to sit in are in fact the interlocking caves in Big You Mountain. The Chineseness and a hint of Zen which readers would suddenly find out, defines it as a modern Chinese bookstore in the true sense of the word.

Arrival / 降临 [Wutopia Lab | Installation 2022] by YU Ting(@yuting0523)
The black BDO that descended on the square is a symbolic social installation, built through the 3D printing technology of @RoboticPlus, and simultaneously shows the expression of divinity and humanity.
Inside the silent black rectangular body is an abstract karst cave that you need to explore, climb and then see a yellow sinkhole from where the sun shines over your head, and you will be in a moment of trance and contemplate the meaning of your existence in this busy city.
The disintegrating black obelisk is the space of desire in this secular city. Its arrival activated a communal space on the edge.

Using this to evade our own selves,

Fengxian Qixian Jesus Church / 奉贤齐贤耶稣堂 [Wutopia Lab | Church 2023] by YU Ting(@yuting0523)
The Fengxian Qixian Jesus Church designed by Wutopia Lab, was finally completed after eight years. The translucent "veil" was used as a contemporary expression of what we understood to be the restrained beauty of Jiangnan and the struggling forces behind it.
The vertical continuous reflections of the dense aluminum grille and the natural light form a curtain of light that feels like a rain screen; the crowd is within this not-so-intense but encompassing curtain where their heart belongs.

The most basic human desire is to exist and live. Women are the driving force behind the development of the advanced primal desire called "existence," which we refer to as culture. —— YU Ting
