the manga sort of canonized Link cycles in MM to be pretty short, but i like to imagine that Link was trapped in a time loop for quite a long time, having to restart everytime things looks bad, and the image of the mask burns in his head and that was what fierce deity is from.

this reminds me of that moment in TP where that one enemy says "i just follow the strongest side...its all i've ever known". and opens the idea that link has been killing all these enemies who were actually capable of reasoning and speech.
