Another one for the list. Hanning was appointed by Gerhard Schroeder, who initiated Germany’s nuclear phase out. I’ve removed the paywall so you can see the full picture >

If you care about the environment and say “follow the science” but aren’t sure about nuclear energy, consider reading Energy is Life. This is what a leading climate scientist has to say about it.

Former @ExtinctionR spox @ziontree tells me and @reason why Western elites feel guilty abt energy use but still hate nuclear energy despite its safety and cleanness. Great stuff youtu.be/9yaQCHoCwpQ?si=8igD…
Wonderful, and unexpected, to be included, given that I am not a member of the nuclear industry. Thank you for the recognition, @NuclearInst

I started making content to address misinformation and get people excited about science. A year later, I’ve been awarded the Silver Creator Award. Apparently only 0.6% of all channels on YouTube achieve this milestone, and I’m proud to be part of that!

ppl are so overly negative about the UK vs reality.
- 4 of top 10 universities globally
- third largest VC market globally behind only USA, China. 1/3 of all VC in europe
- powerhouse in creative industries - second largest music exporter in the world
- largest biotech ecosystem in europe - massive growth sector in the coming years
- London is the top western hub for AI after Silicon Valley.
- excellent financial services base and broader services economy. Number one for FX, number two for PE and Hedge Funds
- produces 20% of global offshore wind
TLDR UK is overwhelmingly a top 3 or top 5 player globally across finance, law, defence, biotech, clean energy, creative industries, and tech (especially AI)
We are incredibly well positioned for the future.
We have a number of problems we need to fix - I believe we will do so.
Extremely bullish on this country

My interview article with Zion Lights @ziontree about nuclear energy. Some excellent answers, both technically and from an environmentalist perspective.

I wanted to share my thoughts on this wonderful book from @ziontree. This is a story of transformation, of human fallibility, and how groups of people can convince themselves to unquestioning belief in untruths and ideology.
Zion explains how, for instance, as a green activist, she was pressured to oppose the simplest path to addressing the climate challenge: nuclear energy. In fact, even raising questions about the possibility of nuclear supplementing solar and wind was shut down in these forums.
No debate, no open forum, only steadfast ideological purity.
Nuclear energy should check all the boxes for those concerned about climate change. Nuclear energy is safe, the technology is mature, and it produces affordable, reliable energy with zero carbon emissions.
Zion came to realize that for many activists, it was not about the climate at all, but a fundamental belief that humans are bad. That we are pestilence on this planet, and more energy only enables our destruction. Therefore, solar and wind are the only allowable solutions; they cap our capacity through intermittency.
Zion also explains how many proposed solutions for humans’ environmental impact don’t actually work, and, counter-intuitively, the best solutions are often more growth, more progress, as this enables humans to do more with less.
This is, of course, one of the motivations behind Risk & Progress as well, to spread the word that progress is the best medicine. With progress, we grow more food with less land. We reduce consumption of key commodities and curb emissions of harmful pollutants into the air and water.
But all of this requires energy and always will. We must, therefore, avoid allowing ideology to dictate where we get it from. Nuclear power must be an essential part of a 21st-century energy mix. Give this one a read!
