ACR off via your preferences menu on samsung TVs should not be assumed to actually disable ACR telemetry.
i’ve found several instances where the checks (whether deliberate or not) are either incorrectly implemented or not checked at all.
full report coming.
for journalists: it’s great you’re reporting on this but i’d ask you to send me a dm requesting access to the full report so you’re not making inferences from my decompilation session that isn’t supported by evidence.
If you've ever wondered why smart TVs are so cheap, this is why.
@log4j rooted his Samsung and found an always-on hot mic, automatic content recognition, geolocation, network mapping, ad targeting and user profiling, shared with Samsung's "400 partners".
A lot of it can be blocked in <15 min, wrote a basic guide below.
What your TV is doing
The main culprit is ACR (automatic content recognition). Your TV screenshots what's on screen, fingerprints it, and sends it home to build your ad profile. Samsung does it every 500ms, LG every 10ms [1].
What is insane: it happens on connected devices too.
Plug in your laptop, your console, your work machine, and your TV can fingerprint that via HDMI [1].
He also found that if your Samsung doesn't have a mic, it'll look for one from a connected soundbar or bluetooth device.
nitter.cf/log4j/status/211376224…
It's on by default, and you likely agreed to it on the setup screen you clicked through in 10 seconds.
Step 1: Turn off ACR
Samsung: Terms & Privacy → Viewing Information Services
LG: Live Plus
Vizio: Viewing Data
Roku: "Use info from TV inputs"
Sony/Google TV: Samba Interactive TV
Menus vary by model, but those are the names to look for. While you're in there, opt out of interest-based ads, reset your advertising ID, decline every optional privacy agreement, turn off voice recognition, and delete apps you never open.
Step 2: Give smart devices their own network
Put the TV, cameras, speakers and vacuum on your router's guest/IoT network. The logic is simple: these devices rarely get patched. If one gets compromised (getting drastically more frequent with AI), it shouldn't be able to see your other devices or home network.
Step 3: Block trackers for the whole house with DNS-level filtering
NextDNS (cloud-based) is easy and has a solid free plan. Pi-hole is a little bit more work if you prefer self hosting. For simplicity we'll focus on the former.
1. Sign up at nextdns.io (free tier is plenty)
2. Privacy tab: add a blocklist (OISD is a good bet) and turn on Native Tracking Protection for Samsung, LG, Roku, Amazon (see attached image)
3. Setup tab: copy your endpoint
4. Paste it into your router's DNS settings as DNS-over-HTTPS/TLS (or use the IPs + "Link IP" if your router only does plain DNS)
5. Bonus: block outbound port 53 except to your router. Some devices hardcode their own DNS to get around you
Then open the NextDNS logs and watch how often your TV phones home. It's eye-opening. If an app or update breaks, find the domain in the logs and allowlist it.
Why they do this
TV prices are down 97% since 2000 [2]. Most of that is better manufacturing and brutal competition. But once margins on the hardware hit zero, the cost moved to you.
In Q3 2024, Vizio lost $6.7M selling TVs and made $115.8M in gross profit from ads and viewing data [3]. They've said on earnings calls that they keep TV prices low to grow the audience they sell to advertisers. Walmart bought them in 2024.
This isn't a conspiracy theory either. Vizio paid $2.2M to the FTC in 2017 for tracking 11 million TVs without consent. Last December, Texas sued Samsung, LG, Sony, Hisense and TCL over ACR. Samsung and LG have since agreed to stop collecting that data without explicit consent [4].
TL;DR
1. ACR off
2. Ads + voice off
3. Smart devices on their own network
4. NextDNS filtering on the router

BREAKING: ANOTHER DISGUSTING BETRAYAL OF JUSTICE!
A SECOND African migrant charged with the brutal murder of Oliver Conroy has just been granted bail by Judge Anthony Rafter.
This is an absolute slap in the face to the victim's family and a stain on our entire legal system.
The court proceedings revealed harrowing details surrounding the incident.
The prosecution states the victim was lured to the location under false pretenses before being mortally bashed and robbed.
The prosecution further alleged the victim was dragged behind his own vehicle for a significant distance, resulting in fatal injuries.
Regarding the 15 year old co accused, the Crown alleged she recorded the incident, which the prosecution argued offered encouragement to the group.
Barrister Cummings noted that she remained with the group inside the stolen vehicle and had multiple opportunities to withdraw as the situation escalated.
Despite these arguments, Judge Anthony Rafter granted bail under strict conditions, including a night time curfew, the surrender of her passport, a ban on alcohol and drug use, and restrictions prohibiting the use of social media and online dating services.
This is the second accused in this pack already back on the street.
Oliver Conroy was 27, thought he was going on a date. Instead a pack of African migrants turned that into one of the most sickening deaths imaginable and now another one of them is home.
While Oliver lays in a wooden box in the muddied ground of a Brisbane cemetery.

just want to say a big fuck you to @MyForexFunds 🖕
they spent over a year playing the sob story of "we closed through no fault of our own boohoo" and "poor us, woe is me" from their owner
well "through no fault of my own" i couldn't complete the minimum 10 days to request my payout back in 2023 on two accounts because the firm closed
now after doing a full 2 month fbi investigation to prove i actually had these accounts, they have awarded me 30% of my payout on one account and 50% of my payout on another account
on top of that, they have closed all my 6 figures of funded accounts not to be traded again
all you had to do was be honourable to your traders. but you didn't. you made the process painful and drawn out so fuck you
in future, make sure you stay away from them

Big Troubles Are A-Coming
State debt is about to explode. NSW debt will jump 331% by 2030 to $273 billion, with interest costs alone hitting $11 billion annually. Victoria's even worse—a 427% increase to $291 billion, where interest will swallow $12 billion or 9.4% of the entire state budget.
Tasmania faces the worst blowout of all, with debt jumping 552% by 2030. 📈 Across all states combined, debt will soar 261%—climbing from $270 billion in 2019 to $977 billion by 2030.
When interest costs eat 9% of your budget, there's no money left for schools, hospitals, or roads. This is what happens when governments spend like there's no tomorrow. Tomorrow's here.

No one wants to hear this but this is yet another example of equities vampiring crypto. Why trade crypto when @SpaceX goes up 20% in a day?
Meanwhile, $BTC continues its doom loop with $STRC at 91 ex dividend while $SPCX scams higher on a low float high emissions design.
Absolutely insane numbers from $SPCX on @tradexyz.
The market recorded $1.696B in 24-hour trading volume, making it the second-largest market across all of Hyperliquid by volume.
It also reached 87.8% of bitcoin:native’s 24-hour trading volume.

Australia runs more civil servants per head than Italy, Canada, the UK, America, Spain and Germany.
We carry 25 percent more than Britain.
Close to 50 percent more than Germany.
Any competent company would halve the headcount and lose nothing.
Ya, the tax is all being stolen as I have said many times to friends...
I have uncovered a trove of Government Grants. Millions and millions of dollars being gifted to Palestinian groups within Australia.

If you're wondering what a VaR shock is or what the implications of a positive stock-bond correlation are, here's a primer:
a simultaneous sell-off in bonds and equities - a positive stock-bond correlation - is a potent trigger for accelerated de-grossing
In the current environment, with Brent crude spiking above $100 and the Strait of Hormuz closure driving inflation fears, the "60/40" safety net isn't working the way the brochure said it would
When the "hedge" (bonds) starts losing money at the same time as the "risk" (equities), it creates a mechanical and psychological feedback loop that forces de-leveraging
In a "normal" market, bonds act as a shock absorber. When they sell off with equities, their diversification benefit vanishes. For multi-asset funds and "Risk Parity" strategies, this is a nightmare scenario:
Volatility Spikes: If both asset classes drop, the total portfolio volatility increases exponentially rather than canceling each other out.
VaR Shocks: Most institutional desks operate under Value-at-Risk (VaR) constraints. When volatility across all buckets rises, their models scream "Shrink Risk!" To get back under their risk limits, they don't just sell the losers - they "de-gross," cutting both longs and shorts to shrink the total size of the book
De-grossing is violent right now because of how the market was positioned entering 2026
Gross Exposure was at Record Highs: Heading into this crisis, hedge fund gross exposure was near an all-time high (roughly 305%). When you are that levered, even a minor 3–5% move in both bonds and stocks can trigger margin calls
Short Squeezes in the Middle of a Crash: As managers de-gross, they must "buy to cover" their shorts while selling their longs. This often leads to the strange phenomenon of the crappiest stocks actually or staying flat while high-quality "crowded" longs get liquidated to raise cash
And right now, The Fed put is gone. Normally when markets get wobbly, the Fed cuts, bonds rally and some semblance of stability returns. But with the prospect of oil-driven inflation, the Fed's hands are tied
So the negative feedback loop has no exit:
Oil Spike -> inflation fear -> bonds sell off WITH stocks -> VaR breached -> de-grossing -> liquidity shrinks -> prices gap lower -> rinse, repeat
Fun times
