Parents can’t go to work if they can’t find child care. Child care IS infrastructure.
Let's PASS universal child care.

Important to know that organizations had to choose to apply to become $10aDay sites. So only those who applied and then were subsequently approved by the Ministry, according to their criteria, are $10aDay now.

the person to ask is @sharongregson who knows more about child care than anyone in the province...and you're right, it would be interesting to see a distribution map...

As the director of a licensed early learning centre, I can tell you children aren’t just being supervised. By age 5, a child’s brain reaches about 90% of its adult size. Language, problem-solving, & self-regulation are built in these years, and certified ECEs guide that learning

What’s newsworthy here is not that Premier Eby has access to $10aDay child care - but rather that not every family does. 10aday.ca/statement_on_david…

You don’t pay the full cost of K-12 education or cancer treatment or a heart operation if you need one - child care should also be an essential public service.

Completely agree on the inequity. Our not-for-profit has been trying to join the program for years without success. I disagree on point two, though. It benefits families of every income. The real problem is too few affordable, quality spaces, especially outside the big cities
$10aDay child care is affordable to implement because it generates significant revenues for government when more parents (women) are able to enter the workforce and pay taxes. centreforfuturework.ca/2025/…

The point is all families should be able to access $10aDay child care the same way all families can access Kindergarten if they choose to. What makes this so upsetting is that the government paused expansion on $10aDay this year instead of working to ensure it becomes universal.

I earn too much to expect $10 a day daycare.
I'm no altruist but I would honestly feel too guilty to take advantage of it and maybe take the spot a single mom or dad needs desperately. . Eby and his wife could formally employ a nanny (people who pay them under the table are despicable imo) and take a tax deduction for part of it, thus saving the space for someone who really needs it.

The solution is not to ration the few existing spaces - the solution is to expand $10aDay to all programs with a funding formula to ensure all children have quality care and all educators are qualified and fairly compensated #10adaychildcare

WATCH: 10% of BC families have access to $10 a day child care. David Eby is among them. Earlier this year, his government 'paused' expansion of the program. A program his predecessor promised to make universal.

Just now, David Eby confirms that he has his kids in $10/day taxpayer-subsidized daycare.
Approx. only 10% of BC daycare spots offer $10/day daycare. Most families who want in can't get a spot.
As Premier, Eby earns $227k/year. Eby's wife is a doctor. Their household income is likely well over half a million dollars per year.
We don't resent British Columbians who are successful (we want more people to succeed).
But where there are wait lists, surely a wealthy family like Eby's shouldn't be taking advantage of $10/day daycare. Think about a working single mother? David Eby deserves the spot more than her?
