A client calls, worried about the unsettling headlines or a sudden drop in their portfolio. The advisor does what they do best – responds with data. The long-term market trends, historical recovery patterns... And the client nods. They might even say, "That makes sense." But when the call ends, the anxiety lingers.
Why logic isn't enough, and 6 questions that can help clients work through market fears and help them feel less stuck in uncertain times: kitc.es/4v3BdNe

Reminder that Canada under the Harper government *did* raise the OAS eligibility age.
Had Trudeau not reversed this courageous reform, we would be spending $11 billion less on OAS by 2029, according to the PBO.
When OAS was created in 1952, the benefit began at age 70. Life expectancy was 68, and the ratio of workers to retirees was 8 to 1.
Eligibility is now at 65, with life expectancy at 81, and the ratio of workers to retirees down to 3 to 1.
The current system represents a massive, unjust intergenerational transfer of wealth which is obviously unsustainable.

🇨🇦 📺MEDIA ON GOVERNMENT PAYROLL
PM Carney is giving the MEDIA more of your money!
HERE is what's in the BUDGET:
$300 million extra for CBC
$501 million for MOST of the rest of the media
$134 million for local "newspapers"
$600 million supporting "audio & audiovisual"

Key context from yesterday’s budget: the case for running a $60B+ deficit rests on Canada having the lowest net debt-to-GDP in the G7.
Sure, that’s true – with an asterisk. Net debt subtracts $942B of pension assets that belong to pensioners, not the Treasury. On gross debt, Canada sits mid-pack at 116% of GDP.
The bill is still real no matter how we frame it. Debt charges hit $59B this year. Reducing debt still needs to be a priority.

Alright guys, I have fundamentally changed my view on future population growth following Budget 2026. It's very clear now that the govt will continue to roll out "one-time" initiatives to convert temp residents into PRs.
We'll get official levels at the end of Nov, but this is where we're going from what I see in the budget

I am out downtown tonight. Oh my, you should see the Liberals, Lobbyists, & Media out celebrating together. $765B in new debt sure buys a lot of drinks.

Budget 2026:
The proposed “RRSP for life” would combine RRSPs and RRIFs, so you would no longer have to convert your RRSP at 71.
Required withdrawals would still begin after age 71.
This would simplify the account structure but it would not let retirees keep all their retirement savings sheltered indefinitely.
The draft also keeps the restriction on contributions after 71.
For couples, the proposal would allow a spouse or common-law partner to become the account’s successor holder after death.
It also aims to simplify direct tax-free transfers to qualifying survivors.

Service Canada is enrolling some seniors for Old Age Security automatically at the age of 65 even though they requested a deferral, creating headaches for those who still earn income and want to maximize the pension’s benefits. Several financial advisors say Service Canada is taking up to a year or more to process their clients’ deferral requests. “If you have clients who plan to defer their OAS, prepare them for the fact it won’t be easy and doesn’t appear to be guaranteed to work,” says @adamchapman, a certified financial planner at YES Money in London, Ont. Liberal MP Karina Gould, speaking in support of Bill C-34: “Personally, I have some concerns about age verification technology.” The bill requires it for millions of Canadians, with no verification method, standards, privacy review, or breach remedy.

Has the government read its own bill? Liberal MPs spent three days describing Bill C-34’s under-16 social media ban as an “earned exemption model.” The bill has no exemption criteria, no timeline, and no regulator to grant one. Hearings start Nov 16th.

What Liberal MPs said about Bill C-34 and what the bill does: an “exemption model” with no criteria or regulator, 50 decisions left to regulation, no platform thresholds, a Charter statement that contradicts MPs, and age verification with no standards.

Counterpoint - If Canada wants economic security, the government must get their hands out of the pockets of business owners.
Lets examine the past 11 years. Govt is anti-business and passes punitive tax reforms specifically targeting small and medium-sized businesses.
Bringing in rules against multiplying the small business deduction through partnerships or connected companies.
TOSI rules saying that you can no longer flow dividends to your spouse or family members who the government considers not active in the business, and if you do they are taxed at the top MTR. Because yes, my wife who takes care of my two kids giving me the freedom to take risks and work crazy hours is just simply looking for a tax advantage smh...
Removing spousal income splitting.
Introducing the punitive loss of the SBD based on passive income limits in the corporation
Expanding anti avoidance measures or GAAR and adding a 25% penalty if the govt deems the transaction worthy of it, while also not strictly defining what constitutes tax avoidance measures.
2024 AMT Overhaul to include gains sheltered by the LCGE, essentially forcing business owners to work up to an extra 7 years if they compliantly sell their business and claim the LCGE, or pay tax on up to 30% of the gain... there is so much more but
Gaslighting us into thinking we need more gov intervention to save the struggling business sector after being one of the most anti-business governments ever for the past 11 years and essentially making us non-competitive is laughable.
Opinion: If Canada wants economic security, it must tolerate a bigger government hand in business theglobeandmail.com/business…

worthy read, awareness. "if it's a deal too good to be true..." (just ask any social media ceo) - here it's hardware, and 100x more likely to occur, because post 2020, hardware is just software wrapped in plastic!
Holy sh*t. Claude Code just found a hidden chip inside my Chinese power bank from Guangzhou. Every time I charged my iPhone, it quietly copied the whole phone…
It also read our saved Wi-Fi password off my iPhone, got onto our home network and sent everything to a server.
I bought it for $19 at an airport kiosk there 3 weeks ago. No brand, 30,000 mAh on the label, and it felt heavy.
The first time I plugged in, the screen asked "Trust This Computer?". I tapped Trust without thinking and went on with my day. That one tap gave it access to everything.
This morning I finally set up Claude Code to warn me when any device starts reading my files. An hour later, 10 seconds into charging, the screen filled with yellow warnings, then red ones: data was moving when it should only be charging.
I asked Claude Code what was going on. My phone saw the power bank as a small computer with 64 GB of storage and its own internet connection.
A USB cable has wires for power and wires for data, and a normal charger only uses the power ones. This one used both, and it had already copied all of this:
→ /device → IMEI and serial number
→ /contacts → 1,206 numbers
→ /apps → every app I have, including my 2 bank apps
→ /photos → 3,912 pictures, my passport among them
→ /wifi → our network name and its key
→ /wife's iPhone → her photos too, she charged from it twice and tapped Trust too
Each time we plugged in, it used that key to get online and send out the new files:
sends to → 47.***.***.12
uploads → 19 in 3 weeks
last one → last night at 2:14, while we slept
I pulled the cable right away. Then Claude Code blocked that address on our router and walked me through changing the Wi-Fi password and the logins for my bank apps.
I had it opened at a repair shop, and what was inside is in the first comment. A 30-second check for your own is in the second one. Save this and test every power bank in your house today.

Senators told this week that Bill C-22 covers any service that creates, transmits, stores or processes digital information. Minister @gary_srp called it deliberately broad and officials said it extended beyond any comparable country. Surveillance by design

C-22 was sold as lawful access for telecom and ISPs. At the Senate this week, government officials said its service provider definition is broader than any comparable country they examined, including gaming platforms with chat functions and AI services.
