Children are affected by domestic violence even when they aren't directly targeted.
Exposure can affect their emotional health, learning and development. Safe, supportive environments can help them heal.

According to the CDC, approximately 6% of women with a recent live birth reported intimate partner violence during pregnancy.
Pregnancy should be a time of care, not fear.

Supporting a survivor doesn't mean making decisions for them.
Listen, offer resources and respect their choices. The goal is to help someone regain control of their life, not take it away.

Safe housing can change lives.
For survivors of DV, a safe place to stay provides more than shelter. It can offer stability, independence and an opportunity to rebuild.
Everyone deserves a safe place to call home.

“Why don't they just leave?”
Leaving an abusive relationship can increase danger. Fear, finances, housing, children and threats can make leaving safely difficult.
Instead of judging, let's understand the barriers.
#DVAM2026 #DVAM #DVActionMonth #WithSurvivors #911CPB
Emotional abuse doesn't leave bruises, but the harm is real.
Constant criticism, humiliation, manipulation and threats can damage confidence and independence.
Abuse isn't always visible.

Your online activity may not be private.
Location tracking, shared accounts and monitored browsing history can be tools of abuse.
If you suspect monitoring, consider using a safer device to research help.

That old phone in your junk drawer could be someone’s lifeline. 📱💜
October is #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth. For someone leaving an abusive situation, a working phone can mean calling for help, staying in touch with an advocate, or reaching family safely.
Our Victim Services Unit partners with @911CPB to get donated phones into the hands of survivors. You can drop off old cell phones, tablets and other small devices at #ThorntonPD headquarters, 9551 Civic Center Drive. Every device is securely wiped before it’s given to someone in need.
Healthy relationships aren't about control.
They're built on respect, trust, communication and the freedom to be yourself.
You should never have to lose your independence to maintain a relationship.

Self-care isn't selfish.
For those experiencing or recovering from domestic violence, small acts of self-care can help support healing and well-being.
Rest. Reconnect. Set boundaries. Ask for support.
Every step matters.

Abuse isn't always physical.
Constant criticism, isolation, financial control, monitoring and intimidation can be warning signs of an abusive relationship.
Recognizing the signs matters.
