It never really stops - crypto 'amateurism' - crypto is beginning to develop a reputation for being less secure than other currency forms. The benefit of hyper discretion, at the level that facilitates, attracts and suits criminals also means making it secure or getting it back is much much harder. The blockchain distributed ledger looks less clever every day (very unfortunately because it is an excellent innovation) - Its reputation as transaction recorder, cryptographer, decentraliser and ownership verifier, is looking a bit 'D minus' this morning. Cryptocurrency exchange @binance has suffered an unprecedented security breach involving $6.3 billion (£4.7 billion) in digital assets, in what investigators believe is the largest cryptocurrency theft ever recorded.
The attack, which unfolded on 29 October 2026, targeted wallets operated by the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, with billions of dollars transferred across multiple blockchain networks in a matter of minutes.
Blockchain intelligence firm TRM Labs has attributed the attack with high confidence to TraderTraitor, a North Korean state-linked hacking group, previously connected to major cryptocurrency thefts.
According to TRM Labs, attackers moved $6.36 billion across ten blockchains, with most of the transfers completed within around 20 minutes. 📑share-talk.com/binance-suffe…

ACFMorningMeeting - 'Buffered' - Tech spending hits returns resistance - The selloff in Alphabet $GOOG, followed overnight by sharp falls in Amazon $AZN and Intel $INTL has shifted attention from demand for computing power to the cash it takes to supply it. Asian chip shares have fallen and Nasdaq futures are lower. For Europe, the pressure meets a fresh French GDP contraction and an ECB that held rates yesterday; London’s energy exposure offers some offset as oil rises.
Opens - The UK and continental opening indications diverge. Dec FTSE 100 futures were 10,778 (+0.25%), supported by firmer oil, while DAX futures were 26,115 (-0.17%) and Euro Stoxx 50 futures 6,189 (-0.51%). Nasdaq 100 futures were -1.4% in the Reuters overnight report. In Asian cash trading, the Nikkei was -2.3%, the Kospi nearly -4% and the Hang Seng +1.7%. $STOXX $FTSE $FTMC $DAX $CAC $DJI $GSPC $IXIC
Stock Watch - AstraZeneca $AZN.L scheduled its 3Q and 9M results for 07:00 GMT; BP $BP.L is due to report 3Q results after its 13 Oct trading statement pointed to stronger refining margins and lower net debt. NatWest $NWG.L also has 3Q results scheduled, with interest income and credit costs especially relevant after this week’s UK Budget.
Commods - OIL - Brent $115.44/bbl (+0.5%) and WTI $102.79/bbl (+0.8%) at 00:30 GMT as uncertainty persisted over US-Iran talks. Spot GOLD $4,000.54/toz (-0.5%) at 05:11 GMT as US inflation and oil kept rate-rise concerns alive. COPPER $6.57/lb (-1.48%, 29 Oct COMEX Dec). COCOA $5,456/MT. SUGAR 19.47¢/lb (+0.67%,) and COFFEE 285.45¢/lb (-0.45%, Dec Arabica settlement).
Data Focus - France’s first estimate showed 3Q GDP contracted -0.1%. Euro-area 3Q GDP is scheduled for 10:00 GMT and German inflation for 13:00 GMT. The ECB held its deposit rate at 2.50% yesterday; the Bank of Japan held at 1.25% today, with one member voting for a rise.
ACFView: favour companies whose sales and cash generation justify current investment spending (yes AI looks questionable on this count); the opening index split argues against a broad European risk-on call.

However, consumer healthcare group $HLN plunged 15% after cutting its full-year revenue outlook despite announcing plans for up to £500m in share repurchases. $LLOY ->5% despite beating 3Q26 profit estimates, as unchanged guidance disappointed investors. The bank reported net interest income of £3.8bn, up 10% y/y, but the stronger figures failed to prevent the sell-off.
