This is the opposite of the innovation we need. This won’t meaningfully serve people, and the deep harms far outweigh any marginal benefits.
Introducing Griffin, the first model to pass the video Turing test. 48% of people who talked to it live thought it was a real human. Previous systems have had a pass rate <3%. It is #1 on NVIDIA's benchmark for full-duplex AI video. It’s the first Human Interaction Model (HIM).

thrilled to announce we have built the “trick old people into handing over their bank passwords machine” from the classic sci-fi horror novel “don’t build the trick old people into handing over their bank passwords machine”

Wrote for Citycast DC about how the city turned Lime and other shared scooter/ebikes into a public nuisance and safety debacle. Molly’s horror story is worse than mine. dc.citycast.fm/opinion/how-d…

Someone’s gotta get these human drivers under control but instead they’ll just keep blocking AVs
Car struck a truck and pushed it through the wall of a building on Wisconsin Avenue NW. No injuries.

Automated enforcement, lower speed limits, and infrastructure interventions are great for making the average responsible driver safer, but they don’t solve for the unhinged and distracted and inebriated among us. Facile Vision Zero plans have failed us again and again.

It is important to remember when people say “this is what they took from you”, that it’s this. This is what they took from you:

DC’s curbs are its most underutilized asset. It’s a real shame that DC leaders are prioritizing parked cars over small business revenue and the joys of community
Another streetery bites the dust. They were a great innovation that Mayor Bowser has killed off

Yep, too many drivers are essentially out to kill #pedestrians.

For millions of young people across America, homeownership seems further out of reach than ever before. Here's my proposal: we can help restore the dream of homeownership with a 5 to 1 federal match for first-time homebuyers saving for a downpayment. merkley.senate.gov/merkley-p…

Traffic fatalities in DC have increased by almost 2x since last year. Vision Zero has unfortunately been a failure in DC. Fatalities remain high and progress has fallen short of Mayor Bowser's pledge to eliminate traffic deaths by 2024. Safer infrastructure is really important, and I applaud DC for creating better infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians across the city. Better design helps reduce mistakes and harm by responsible drivers – but design isn't always destiny. We live in a world of free wills and free-wheeling, and District leaders can't pretend paint is a full substitute for police and policy. Here are some ideas to start: - Better traffic enforcement: traffic cameras are helpful, but the most dangerous drivers aren't the kind of people who respectfully pay tickets. - Address willfully unsafe behaviors by all road users. - Redouble efforts to boot and tow dangerous drivers who have racked up thousands of dollars in parking tickets. - Zero tolerance for speeding, cell phone use, and driving under the influence in school zones when children are present. I'm serious - endangering our children should lead to a revoked license and a night in jail. - Authorize autonomous vehicles in the District. wapo.st/4z0tAte

If DC's Vision Zero plan was even a fraction as successful at reducing injuries, we would call it a miracle. nitter.cf/Waymo/status/210311473…
270M+ miles. 841 fewer injury-causing crashes. Our latest safety data shows the Waymo Driver continues to make roads safer for everyone. Compared to human drivers across 5 territories, it reduced: 📉 Injury crashes by 82% 📉 Serious injury crashes by 95% Full data: waymo.com/safety/impact

If you are a staffer you have a moral obligation to brief your boss on this meme before they make you write a bill like this
JUST IN: First-time homebuyers could get as much as $50,000 for a down payment on a house, under a draft bill to be introduced by Senator Jeff Merkley and cosponsored by Senator Ron Wyden, per Axios

Diesel is getting so high the numbers are reaching "science fiction" levels. It's now too expensive to move items through trucking, so goods are getting shifted to rail which raises the price on consumer goods and food items!

One of our station dc interns was really interested in the ai industrial stack and kept hearing about how there’s a workforce shortage… So he built a job board to help get these roles filled. corestackjobs.com/ Perfect example of how we want our interns to operate. Here’s a proposal: anyone who blocks an intersection for a full stoplight cycle gets fined $1 for every minute they add to everyone else’s trip.
