Do we not learn anything? Cutting red tape cost some taxpayers everything and has left millions of others trapped in buildings with ‘defects’ that were swept under the carpet in the name of progress 💚

This quote from the Guardian article today sums it up perfectly:
“The question for the government is whether the proposed reforms give the owners of the existing 5m leasehold homes a credible route out of their dependency – or just regulate their continued subservience.”
5m leaseholders know the answer to that question.
GR reform is 40yrs, deployed as ‘good news’. Meanwhile the BSR fails 2 hold FHldrs to account & proposed regulator will be toothless. Life threatening remediation isn’t happening, lenders r refusing remortgages & LHrs face eviction. Govt actions aren’t remotely ambitious enough.

Before you lock someone up for life for using very specific methods of murder, you need solid proof that those very specific methods were indeed used. Not only is this absent in all the #lucyletby murder convictions, but non-murderous alternatives are far more plausible & likely.
How’s the unfinished business going @AngelaRayner ?

Our remediation in Swansea by Persimmon was due to start November 2025.
It's now Spring 2027 but nothing in writing.
We're waiting for alarm upgrades and have 24/7 Waking Watch costing 230 leaseholders £110.000 a month.
Life is miserable.
None of this is our fault.

Agreed, I watch Mornings, but leasehold issues do not get anywhere near enough coverage. The most important thing now, is to question whether the upcoming bill meets manifesto commitments to ‘end’ leasehold and the law commission proposals from 2020. This is currently debatable.

There is SO much concern on my feed about 'My First Home'...concerns I share from experience of being trapped in Shared Ownership-another government backed scheme to "help" first time buyers & billed as "affordable".

This is not the way to improve the property market. If you want smaller deposit mortgages we have them already, if you want properties sold then work on getting mortgage rates cheaper, remove leasehold issues, and build a wider variety of properties.
If you don't have help from the bank of Mum and Dad, this is for you:
This government is introducing the Your First Home scheme to help more young people buy their first home with a deposit of just 2.5%.
That means less to save upfront, and lower monthly costs once you’ve got the keys.
And this help is coming soon, with pre-registration set to open by the end of the year.

No, it’s about taxpayers subsidising developer profits. The same developers who failed to fix thousands of defective buildings they built.
And @UKlabour is just throwing another generation under the bus.

Your First Home is about making accessing the first rung of the property ladder that bit easier.
It will build on the lessons learnt from previous schemes, while retaining the benefits. 🌹2/3

A lot of young people believed they were doing the right thing when they were buying their first leasehold flat. They’re instead left holding the can on dangerously defective fire trap buildings with a tenure that maximises misery. Help to Buy 2.0 is reward for industry failure.
Let's be honest.
A lot of young people have stopped believing they'll ever own their own home.
That's what happens when rents are high, house prices are high, and saving for a deposit feels impossible.
My Labour government is stepping in to help.
With Your First Home, first-time buyers will be able to buy a new-build home with a deposit of just 2.5%.
Because hard work and saving should count for something.
And because the dream of owning your own home shouldn't belong only to those with help from the bank of Mum and Dad.
Let’s be honest. The new build flat market has collapsed because people have wised up and don’t want to get in to the leasehold trap where they have zero control of build quality and service charges. I don’t see this policy delivering what developers want - more cash cows.
Let's be honest.

Glad someone else sees this Labour ponzi scheme is just a lambs to the slaughter (negative equity trap for young people) just to try and prop up a beleaguered housing market

I can't believe you're proposing ' Help to Buy ' when you haven't sorted out leasehold. If you made Leasehold Reform a prioriy it would free up the stagnant housing market. Especially for new-build flats which devepers are struggling to sell.
