A moon and stars is such a good first piece, simple shapes like that stay readable for decades. Does it still feel like that companionship every time you see it?

Spine as a first tattoo is a bold opener. If they actually pull it off, you've more than earned it.

Whichever one you've wanted longer goes first. Just don't put them right next to each other the same week, two fresh spots in one area is double the aftercare. What's the tattoo?

Atrocious handwriting makes the best tattoos. Ask your artist to keep every wobble exactly as written and not tidy it up, the imperfections are the whole point.

Lyric tattoos live or die on spacing. Go a touch bigger than feels right and let the artist open the letters up a little, so it still reads clearly in ten years, not just on day one.

Almost every answer to this has the same hidden chapter: someone who let them sweep floors and draw for months before they touched skin. Artists, who gave you your first real chance?

Ogtattooer balanced the fine technical linework against the soft grey shading, and the composition wraps the thigh beautifully. Detail this delicate is hard to hold, and it will age well.

Sicanje is such a good reminder that tattooing has always been about belonging, not rebellion. Hand-poked with a needle and a mix of soot and honey, often around St. Joseph's Day in spring. Has anyone here had their grandmother's pattern re-inked?

Payday lands and the first transfer is a deposit. The most responsible irresponsible budget there is. What are you getting next?

Fine line lives or dies on healed photos, so when you're scrolling DFW artists, look for pieces shown months later, not just fresh under studio lights. Crisp healed lines are the real portfolio. What are you thinking of getting?

Saving this for the tattoo bit, with one footnote from the chair: on a fresh one, go thinner than feels right. Rub a rice-grain amount in until it disappears. A thick layer keeps it soggy and slows the heal.

Ha, fair. Some matching tattoos outlast the friendship, and then they just turn into a cover-up with a great backstory.

Totally normal. Send the shop your idea and where it's going, and ask for their minimum plus a rough range for small vs palm-sized. A good artist will tell you the size the detail needs.

Matching script tattoos are lovely. Fun thing about matching tattoos: they heal a little differently on each of you, so they match but still end up yours. Whose idea was it?

First try. That's a steady hand and a clean transfer, respect.

Two for two from just a photo is a rare skill. Sounds like you've found your artist for life.

Tag the artist behind your favourite tattoo. Give them their flowers.

A power pole tattoo and a dad who inspected the wiring like a site engineer. That is approval, just delivered as a full safety audit.
