Online now: Attenuated hypothalamic response to fructose via a dedicated gut-brain pathway dlvr.it/TSz9JP
New lab paper @NeuroCellPress!
@_Aaron_McKnight asked a simple question:
Do calories look the same to hunger neurons in the brain? The answer is no.
Fructose and glucose contain the same calories, but they engage fundamentally different gut-brain pathways.

Thank you to the team, including @_Aaron_McKnight, @alanaraujo87, @_alexvtheg, @GdeLartigue, and our other co-authors!

I’m so excited to share our preprint on how brainstem neurons sense and integrate multiple body signals during food consumption. We imaged 1000s of neurons across the lateral parabrachial nucleus (LPBN) in behaving mice. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

We found that in vivo peptide release and signaling gradually enhances the response of satiety-promoting hypothalamic neurons to each bite of food during a meal. These consequences of each bite take minutes to manifest, and could help explain why slow eating enhances satiety.
I am thrilled to share the published version of our study on how neuropeptide signals regulate feeding in the hypothalamus! We imaged endogenous peptide signals in subcellular compartments during behavior. Below is an updated summary: rdcu.be/dZlI3

HAPPY to share our new paper! Are there specific neurons for food need (hunger) and food motivation (appetite)? Computational modeling and neural activity recording dissociated these two neurons.THX to @HyungGoo_Kim @kyusik_kim_ @SerenaYounghee @bbbining science.org/doi/10.1126/scia… – at Songpa-gu, Republic of Korea
