“Every mother matters. Every child matters and every family deserves to live a healthier life,” said Patricia Ithau of the M-PESA Foundation.
Through Uzazi Salama, investments across five health facilities, stronger maternity teams and community health systems will support the Ministry of Health’s Every Woman, Every Newborn, Everywhere (EWENE) Rapid Results Initiative.

Today, @Kakamega_037 , Amref Health Africa and the @MPESA_FDN are launching a collaborative initiative to strengthen maternal and newborn health.
Through investments in health facility infrastructure, service delivery and community health systems, the initiative will support the Ministry of Health to advance the Every Woman, Every Newborn, Everywhere (EWENE) Rapid Results Initiative (RRI).
The goal is to strengthen health systems so every woman and newborn can access quality care when it matters most.

The #Ebola cases in Kenya and Nigeria highlight the need for a coordinated, continent-wide response. African governments, @AfricaCDC and regional bodies should strengthen cross-border surveillance, accelerate testing, secure sustainable financing and build community trust to contain the outbreak at its source. Africa cannot afford fragmented responses to cross-border health threats. Collective action, adequate resources and rapid response are critical to protecting lives and strengthening health security.

Chaired a consultative meeting with an Amref Health Africa delegation led by its Chair, De Mette Kinoti, and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Githinji Gitahi, to strengthen our strategic partnership in advancing the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda.
Operating in 35 countries and headquartered in Nairobi, Amref is a key partner in strengthening health systems and expanding access to quality healthcare.
Between January and September 2026, our joint interventions in Taifa Care, primary healthcare and health workforce development reached 3.6 million people across all 47 counties.
More than 3,800 healthcare workers in 38 counties received training on Social Health Authority (SHA) contracting and claims processes, while implementation of the Facility Improvement Financing Act advanced in 43 counties.
Amref also supported the digitisation of 250 health facilities in Turkana and the rollout of the Taifa Care Health Management Information System in 10 counties.
Our discussions further covered community health, with an annual allocation of USD 8.5 million supporting Community Health Promoters (CHPs), as well as preparedness for Bundibugyo Virus Disease, county resilience, tuberculosis and malaria programmes, and a USD 13.2 million investment to accelerate maternal and newborn health interventions in six high-burden counties.
I called for closer alignment of Amref's investments with national priorities under the principles of One Plan, One Budget and One Monitoring and Evaluation Framework to strengthen coordination, transparency and accountability.
We agreed to formalise our collaboration through a partnership framework agreement and quarterly portfolio reporting to track progress and accelerate results.
I was joined in the meeting by Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr. Ouma Oluga, Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth.

Access to maternal care depends on more than the availability of health facilities. It also means ensuring pregnant women, mothers and newborns can be reached and connected to essential services. Across Kilifi and Narok, 350 bicycles are helping Community Health Promoters strengthen that connection.

Ending #malaria requires more than just making testing and treatment accessible within communities. Community Health Promoters (CHPs) play a key role, but other challenges also need to be addressed.
One major challenge is #climatechange, which is making malaria harder to control. Rising temperatures, unpredictable rainfall, and more frequent flooding provide ideal conditions for mosquitoes to breed, spreading malaria into new areas, including highlands and communities that were once low-risk. Families living far from health services are often hit the hardest.
That is why #AHAIC2027 matters. It will put climate and health at the centre of the conversation, as the foundation for ending malaria rather than a side issue. It will champion:
✅ Climate-informed malaria surveillance and early warning
✅ Resilient, community-rooted primary healthcare
✅ Investment in the Community Health Promoters who already deliver results
✅ African-led solutions, data and financing
Test early. Treat early. And let’s build the climate-smart health systems that stop the next outbreak before it starts.

For families living far from health facilities, distance can delay access to malaria testing and treatment, putting timely care out of reach.
Through Community Case Management of Malaria, PS Kenya supports Community Health Promoters to test people with suspected malaria and provide recommended treatment when infection is confirmed, in line with national guidelines.
By bringing testing and treatment closer to underserved communities, PS Kenya helps families access essential malaria services nearer to home, reducing the need to travel long distances to seek care and strengthening access to primary healthcare.
When a fever strikes, seek prompt testing from a qualified health provider or trained Community Health Promoter.
