In my last post I mentioned 2000s Bollywood's problematic pseudo secularism. Another example is Fanaa starring Aamir Khan directed by Kunal Kohli. It makes a literal Jihadist emotionally irresistible.
Rehan the Jihadist woos the audience with poetry, humour and romance. The audience experiences him through Zooni's(Kajol) love, so obviously the film creates an attachment to him. His charm, their separation and their child keep pulling attention towards his humanity. Why are we humanising literal extremists?
Humanising a terrorist is inherently wrong. His emotional life receives greater attention in the movie than the poor people endangered by his mission(Lmao). So Terrorism becomes a personal tragedy rather than a national one, and it is romantic. Otoh its prospective victims remain largely anonymous. Its romantic glamour makes the terrorist more memorable than the moral indictment of his actions.

Watched the Tyson documentary on Netflix.
Every such biopic, tells you how relentless is American capitalism. Tyson, son of a sex worker, father was a pimp, lived in the most backward neighborhood of America. Thanks to his African Congo-lese ancestory, his punches were super strong. He used to rob & steal like other black teenagers in his neighborhood.
The difference was America’s legendary talent scouting pipeline. All migrants. An Italian migrant found him, and adopted. Then he was passed around various managers eventually lapped up by Don King. The slimy yet legendary showman, who earned Tyson $430 million in less than 10 years from the time he was snatching gold chains on the streets of Brooklyn.
Only the IITs & IPL have managed to build such a pipeline in India, rest of the fields are still mired by bureaucracy.
