Have you ever seen a fairytale come to life through ballet? In Frederick Ashton’s Cinderella, the moment Cinderella makes her entrance at the ball is pure enchantment. Every graceful step, the delicate sweep of her flowing veil, and the wonder in her expression make this scene feel as though it has stepped straight out of a fairytale. A beautiful reminder of how ballet can tell a story without a single word.

Have you ever heard Vivaldi’s “Summer” performed on the marimba? It’s amazing to see these young musicians play this piece so skillfully!

“England: we're going to have to opt out of that one.” This has aged magnificently. It speaks to astounding talent that they could make 17th-century geopolitics hilarious to a 21st-century audience.

Remember the delightful “Toot Sweets” scene from the classic film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968)? Caractacus Potts comes up with a wonderfully imaginative invention: a candy that you can eat and also blow like a little whistle. What follows is a lively musical number filled with colorful sweets, cheerful dancing, and playful tunes blown through the candy itself. But the fun doesn’t stop there. The whistles soon attract a whole pack of dogs, turning his clever invention into an unexpected and hilarious commotion. It makes this scene so much fun to watch.

This mechanical music box was made in Switzerland 240 years ago. Its design was inspired by tightrope-walking acts performed in theaters, which were hugely popular among Europe’s upper classes at the time. The beautifully crafted lid is adorned with sparkling crystals.

I have to admit, I was incredibly impressed by Sleeping Beauty (1959). It’s one of the most beautiful animated films I’ve ever seen. Someone carefully and meticulously designed every part of this film, and that wasn’t a coincidence. It was the culmination of everything Walt and his company had learned over the years. This was also the last animated feature that Walt Disney personally devoted himself to wholeheartedly. It can be considered his masterpiece in the fairy-tale genre. The studio didn’t return to this genre until 30 years later, after Disney’s death in 1966, with the release of The Little Mermaid in 1989.

From "White Christmas" (1954). Danny Kaye and Vera-Ellen perform a classic song by Irving Berlin. Their talent truly shines in this performance. After leaving the Army at the end of World War II, Bob Wallace and Phil Davis team up to become a successful song-and-dance duo. Phil plays matchmaker, introducing Bob to two beautiful sisters, Betty and Judy, who also perform as a singing and dancing act. When Betty and Judy travel to a Vermont lodge to put on a Christmas show, Wallace and Davis follow them, only to discover that the lodge is owned by their former commanding officer, General Waverly. A series of romantic mix-ups follows as the performers try to help the general.

Luciano Pavarotti’s unforgettable performance of “Nessun Dorma” at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Italy. It was his final public performance before he passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2007.

One of the funniest scenes in White Christmas (1954). Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye’s hilarious take on “Sisters” is just as entertaining as Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen’s original performance. Their comic timing makes this scene unforgettable.

This is the Margravial Opera House in Bayreuth, Germany, built 1745 - 1750. It is an extraordinary opera house that takes us back to the world of the eighteenth-century court. Built for the wedding celebrations of a princess in 1748, the Margravial Opera House combines elaborate Baroque decoration with a remarkable secret: much of its magnificent auditorium is made of wood and painted canvas. Through intricate ornamentation and masterful illusionistic painting, its designers transformed these materials into a theatrical world of extraordinary splendour. Today, this remarkable building remains one of the finest surviving examples of Baroque court theatre, offering a rare glimpse into the artistic imagination and ceremonial traditions of another age.
