I have to admit, I was incredibly impressed by Sleeping Beauty (1959). It’s one of the most beautiful animated films I’ve ever seen.
Someone carefully and meticulously designed every part of this film, and that wasn’t a coincidence. It was the culmination of everything Walt and his company had learned over the years.
This was also the last animated feature that Walt Disney personally devoted himself to wholeheartedly. It can be considered his masterpiece in the fairy-tale genre. The studio didn’t return to this genre until 30 years later, after Disney’s death in 1966, with the release of The Little Mermaid in 1989.
