Friends, I don’t think we Christians fully understand how radically we must think about the goal of the Christian life. It is not to become a nice person. An atheist can be a nice person. The goal is to become a new creation, someone living the very life of God. Jesus is the Son of God by nature, but we become sons and daughters of God by adoption, brought into a share in his life like a child welcomed into a family and their home. That’s what it means to be a saint: to be invited into the household of God, and to worship God by eating and drinking the body and blood of Jesus, becoming assimilated unto him.

Fr. Nicholas Martell, parochial vicar of St. Mary’s Cathedral in Portland, encourages all Roman Catholics to learn the ordinary prayers of the Mass in Latin, including the Gloria, Sanctus and Agnus Dei, and to become familiar with Gregorian chant, which the Second Vatican Council said should be given “pride of place” in the liturgy. He reiterates that Latin is a treasured part of the Church’s patrimony, uniting Catholics across cultures and backgrounds.

Friends, St. Bernard of Clairvaux said that the goal of the spiritual life is to love God alone for the sake of God alone. What does he mean by this? He means we’re loving God not because we’re afraid of what might happen if we don’t, or because we’re trying to get something out of him. Rather—like the love between two spouses—we’re loving him for himself alone. We are lost in the wonder and the beauty and the majesty of God. That’s the highest kind of love.

I find myself slain by the poverty of my love for God and the ridiculous generosity of His love for me. And yet He accepts my love as I give it, calling me to more, but loving me where I am. #talkedtotheboss

That which God wants to bring forth out of us is so much more than we want for ourselves. We must choose to embrace the pain that comes with becoming the men and women God made us to be. God looks at you and sees something extraordinary, rare and of infinite value Do not choose the lesser version of you. Choose His vision of you. #talkedtotheboss

God does not love you because you prayed correctly. He does not love you because you were able to focus in your prayer. Your excellent theology does not compel Him to love you better. He just loves you. He loves your helplessness. Your brokenness is a magnet for Him; it attracts, it doesn’t repulse. Don’t despise your spiritual poverty, it’s the truth about you. The Father gave us a savior. Don’t be surprised you need one.

Somewhere, there is someone who’s in the same fight as you. The same struggles, the same blessings. More than likely, you do not know this person and will not meet them until heaven. Today, pray for your unknown comrade. Pray for them to receive affirmation, Grace and peace. Pray that they stay faithful to the fight. The fight for holiness is a lifelong fight and it is one we were made for. #talkedtotheboss

If we are not to lie when we call ourselves “Christians,” we must bear witness to it by our way of living. -St Gregory of Nyssa

Christus Vincit chanted at the beginning of the solemn Eucharistic procession with 5,000 Catholics in Portland, Oregon. One of the Church's most fitting acclamations in honor of Christ the King. English translation: Christ conquers! Christ reigns! Christ commands! To Leo, Supreme Pontiff and universal Father: peace, life, and eternal salvation. To Alexander, most Reverend Archbishop, and to all his clergy: peace, life, and eternal salvation. May good times come. May the peace of Christ come. May the Kingdom of Christ come.

Archbishop Sample: "This Land Does Not Belong to Satan. It Belongs to Christ." Before leading more than 5,000 Catholics in a Corpus Christi procession, Archbishop Alexander Sample preached on Christ's kingship and the Church's mission to bring Him to the world. Recalling a solemn rite he conducted a few days earlier, he proclaimed: "This land does not belong to Satan. It belongs to Christ." As Catholics accompanied the Lord Jesus in the Holy Eucharist through the streets, the archbishop reminded the faithful that they are called to bring Christ to their communities.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, have mercy on me, a sinner.
To my Roman Catholic friends, When you’re standing before God one day and he asks you why he should let you into heaven, what will you say?

This Monday, I had the great honor of being received in audience by the Holy Father, Leo XIV. I was able to share with him how the Lord is blessing the Archdiocese of Portland through our mission renewal, and the fruits we have seen in recent years. I spoke about the growing number of seminarians, as well as the steady increase in adult conversions. Last year, 1,200 were received, and this Easter we are projecting more than 1,600. The Holy Father was visibly pleased and moved by these signs of renewal. I also spoke with him about the challenges we face in proclaiming the Gospel with fidelity and courage. He listened with great warmth, assured me of his prayers, and I promised him ours in return. I was especially struck by his discernment and his deep desire for ecclesial unity rooted in truth and charity. I return home grateful and encouraged. Please continue to pray for our Holy Father, and for the ongoing renewal of our archdiocese. Photos: Catholic News Service/Vatican Media @CatholicNewsSvc
