ALT She looks past the man she is tied to and straight at whoever is watching, level and unhurried. Bound, bare-shouldered and pressed close, she is still the one deciding how this ends.
ALT Two rivals bound so tightly they cannot look anywhere but at each other. The rope does what neither of them will: it holds them close, faces a breath apart, against a bare white nothing.
ALT While the stare above holds, a gloved hand below is already untying it. The rope never had her; she only stayed this long because she chose to.
ALT Bowed close over the letter, she reads it with her lace slipped from her shoulders, her heel lifted high behind her. Every word on the page seems to hold her still, and the rose waits at the edge of the bed for whoever wrote it.
ALT Sitting up now, bare to the waist, she reads the same letter a second time, as if the words might have changed overnight. The lace has fallen to her lap and she has not noticed; all of her is on the page.
ALT She holds the letter up to the morning window, as if the light might show what was written between the lines. Her bare back is turned to the room, with the lace fallen to her hips and the rose forgotten by her knee.
ALT She lifts her head from his shoulder, and for the first time the mouth has a gaze above it: level, unhurried, unsmiling. Blood is still at the corner of her lips and the fang tips rest on them, and she meets the viewer as the next one.
ALT A red mouth opens just far enough to show two long white fangs, and one thread of blood slides from the lower lip into a single heavy drop that is about to fall. The tall frame gives that drop room to fall, slowly, over the pale curve of her chin.
ALT The same drop finally lands, and keeps going. A single line of blood runs from a fanged red mouth down her chin, her throat and her bare chest, and the whole height of the picture becomes the path of what she has just tasted.
ALT The breath before the bite: a red mouth parts and two white fangs hang a finger's width above a stranger's bare neck. Her eye is fixed on the skin and her hand holds him still, and the picture stops on the one moment the source never showed.
