"Ken Boyer did everything well, hitting for power, average and playing Gold-Glove defence. So why is he not in the Baseball HOF?? Because third base is probably the most underrepresented position in the Hall. It’s just hard to get in as a third baseman. Third base is the Hall of Fame’s biggest mess." Eddie Daniels. Ken Boyer was signed in 1949 out of high school by the Cardinals as a pitcher, but his bat proved more formidable. He had a 3.42 ERA, but a .455 average for the Class D Lebanon Chix. In Havana in 1954, Ken Boyer’s winter-ball stint ended abruptly when fastball hit him behind his left ear, resulting in a severe concussion that left him unconscious for three days. Boyer made an unsuccessful attempt to resume play, but was forced to return home instead. 11 All-Star selections, Five-time Gold Glove winner, National League MVP in 1964, leading the Cardinals to a World Series Championship. He hit over .300 five times, Hit over 20 HR`s eight times, Retired with the third highest slugging average EVER by a third baseman (.462). Drove in 90 runs eight times, still the only Cardinal to hit for the Cycle TWICE! Ken Boyer’s 12 career walk-off hits remain the most for any player since 1950. Over his career, hit .287, 2,143 hits, 282 HR, 1,141 RBI, 1,104 runs, 318 doubles, 68 triples, 105 stolen bases. Ken Boyer is ALWAYS in my HOF!!!!!
