If you told me when I was leaving school that I would end up running a EV betting service, I would have never believed you. But I have found myself in this world. And it is a very strange one. As my my feed is overrun with gambling or gambling-adjacent content, you see a lot of questionable stuff. Don't get me wrong, there are a ton of helpful and genuine creators out there. I've learnt a lot from them myself. But, my god, there is so much slop and it kills (with views). The reality is, most people should not bet on sports. If you are doing it for fun AND understand the odds you are playing, that's fine. But the delusional people who flaunt huge tickets or think they can make money off their intuition is just damaging. Betting = maths. Yes it's important to understand sports. But you are not going to beat the books because you watch a lot of sports. I often find myself explaining what I do with relatively well-educated people. And when I try and explain the concept of EV betting, they find it hard to grok. Everyone wants to make money quickly. They want to hit that one monster multi. Or my absolute favourite term that goes around, get a bet on the "absolute lock of the century". We try our best to share advice and strategies that are rooted in mathematical principles to help you make smarter betting decisions. And I hope we are doing that. If you want to make money sports betting, I am here to tell you that is very much possible. But you need to take some time and learn. It is definitely not "easy" and it will not happen overnight. One of the funniest thing going around are ladder challenges. They do make for great content / engagement. But it's straight degen behaviour They often get marketed as an easy way to take $10 and turn into $10,000. But even with a strong edge, they are highly unlikely. With no edge at all it's 1 in 1,024 attempts. With a 5% edge, it's only 1 in 629 attempts. Most of the time, people are playing straights or even worse SGM which I can't imagine they have a proven edge over.

This is my list of red flags from any gambling influencer 🚩🚩🚩 - Only bets with promotions and counts to their P/L - Doesn't price shop - Talks about win rate instead of ROI - Only bets favourites or short odds - Does not track bets - Complains about hooks - Shows off watches as cars as part of the lifestyle of sports betting - Says things are a "lock" (unironically) Am I missing any???

My first entry into value betting was arbitrage betting about 8 years ago. When I first started, I was just scraping data into a spreadsheet myself. When I found so many arbs on NBA, it was literally like I had found a glitch in the matrix. Was some of the easiest money I have made. But now, when I speak to people about profitable betting, I would never recommend arbs. I know we have it as a product in BetSniper, but with the current state of the market in Australia, I just don't think it's the right option. Yes, it is largely guaranteed money. But I would much prefer people do EV betting. You will be better off in the long run.

Being able to get +EV bets down on match markets is a game changer. Particularly for accounts with limits, you can really extend the profitability of an account by playing match markets. In the long-run, the EV % won't be as big as player props but can easily get more money down per bet.
