Amanpour, reading Speaker Johnson’s statement: We must take a stand and fight to protect the greatest nation in the history of the world from being overrun by Mini Mamdanis. Mamdani: I’m only 5’11”, so I guess I would consider myself a little mini. I think that he would rather talk about me than talk about the fact that so much of the reason that cost of living is getting exacerbated is because of current federal policy. And what I see in Dr. El-Sayed is a focus. You hear it from him. He talks about money out of politics, money in your pocket, Medicare for All. That gets to the heart of what so many Americans are worried about. They’re worried about the corporatization of our politics, they’re worried about their inability to afford health care, and they’re worried about their ability to afford day-to-day dignities of life. And what we need to see across the country—a country that we all love and care for—is one that working people can afford. Because take a look at this city: it’s the wealthiest city in the history of the world, and one in four New Yorkers are living in poverty. If you look at Michigan, you will find many working people who feel the same: that no matter how hard they work in a day, they are still behind at the end of it. That has to change. And if we don’t change that, we’re going to lose the soul of this country, which is the working person that helps to power it each and every day.
