TikTok - I'm not leaning into TikTok's strengths enough. To do so requires more time commitment, and I'm not quite there yet. TikTok shorts have to capture attention and have a hook of some kind. This requires a bit more editing time than I have available. Making quick shorts for YouTube and TikTok from my long form videos is doing about what I'd expect.
Aztec history lesson/devblog:
Mictlantecuhtli (Lord of Mictlan) and Mictecacihuatl (Lady of the Dead) are a cute couple in Aztec lore.
The lord's iconography is among the most immediately recognizable in all of Mesoamerican art. Codex images and stone sculptures show him with a bare human skull for a head, often with round disk-eyes meant to represent stars. A necklace of human eyeballs hangs around his neck in several depictions. Blood-drenched hair fans out beside him.
He ruled alongside his consort Mictecacihuatl, "Lady of the Dead," who watched over the bones of the deceased. Together they formed a paired divine couple, which followed a deep pattern in Aztec theology where major cosmic forces came in male-female pairs. She is the figure now popularly associated with Dia de los Muertos imagery, though the direct connection requires careful untangling across several centuries.
Aztec history lesson/devblog:
Quetzalcoatl, whose name translates literally to "Feathered Serpent" or "Plumed Serpent" (quetzalli meaning tail feather of the quetzal bird, and coatl meaning snake), was one of the most important, complex, and revered deities in the pantheon.
Quetzalcoatl represented the height of intellect, creation, and spiritual aspiration in the Aztec mind - standing in fascinating cosmic balance (and frequent rivalry) with heavier deities of war like Huitzilopochtli and dark sorcery like Tezcatlipoca.
The image of a serpent covered in the iridescent green feathers of the sacred quetzal bird is a profound symbol. The snake represents the earth and physical grounding, while the feathers represent the sky, wind, and spiritual ascension. Together, he bridged the gap between heaven and earth.
Aztec history lesson/devblog:
This is a Cihuateteo. In Aztec lore, a cihuateteo is a woman who died in child-birth. They are revered to the same levels as a fallen warrior in this culture. On the days they visited the earth, children and men were warned to stay indoors, as folklore claimed the Cihuateteo would steal young children, cause illness or palsy, and tempt men into adultery at crossroads.

Here is more gameplay of the new art direction for Quetzal (the Aztec Zelda-like game). These are edits from me playing through the opening of the game. It's a prologue that sets up the story before we start exploring the world and going into temples and dungeons.
This is FAR from a final build - and there are all sorts of funny little bugs and sprite issues, but it gives a sense of where this could go.
Sort of interested in trying out some Gemini 4 Carbon in game dev this weekend. #GeminiFourth #Gemini
I did say we'd be releasing our models periodically...introducing Gemini 4 Carbon, our next frontier model.
Following Argon's release just two weeks ago, Carbon shows the pace at which we’re pushing the frontier, it ranks #1 on the recently updated v5.0 of @ArtificialAnlys Intelligence Index at 59. It also leads across key cybersecurity evaluations scoring 88.2% on SEC-bench Pro for finding vulnerabilities, 54.8% on ExploitGym for exploitation, and 71.0% on CWE-bench for patching.
We’re seeing significant improvements in long-horizon tasks even compared to Argon, and we’ve strengthened frontier safeguards.
As we did with Argon, we’re going to roll it out gradually + responsibly. Some trusted cyber defenders will get access starting this week. We'll be expanding it to more partners through our Fairwind Program, ahead of wider availability soon, so hang tight!
A Reddit post asked "why do people hate AI games?" To me, this discourse is super obvious since I live in it so much. So I discuss 10 reasons why people are against AI games - and how to counter these arguments:

First test of using the existing sprites with a pixelated pre-renderd background. I can definitely see the potential here. For a traditional RPG, this is great - for an action RPG where we sometimes rely on the environment to have hazards, we might have to rethink some stuff. 🤔
Game dev is fun.

Working on the opening of this game and I have to be honest. This art style is just not quite doing it for me. The village in particular is feeling flat - more like an early 90s DOS game and less like a high fidelity artistic PS1-era rpg.
So I'm going back to the drawing board. I think I'm going to go with pre-rendered background (pixelated ones of course) and see if that makes the world feel more cozy and less like someone created a village on graph paper.
Reposting this since it's helpful! Tired of your pixel art not animating well? Or even need some help on the generation? Well I do a deep-dive of

Honest question: why is everyone on Reddit so miserable?
Even in communities that should have alignment on topics (such as being pro-AI), the amount of unproductive "Crabs in a bucket" behavior is astounding. I don't even see the point in engaging there anymore. Well... it's a quick way to get a shit ton of visibility. But man, you're going to have to deal with haters everywhere you look.
