According to EU, Pakistan qualifies for GSP+ status because its human rights record is perfect. EU also refuses to release Pakistan election report that it has buried.
Imran Khan, his wife and his sisters are all in prison facing persecution, and torture at the hands of the military regime in Pakistan. And yet, the Western powers continue aiding and abetting the brutal military dictator responsible for crimes against humanity. Simply because he’s compliant and useful for their short term interests.

Outrageous. This is the most brutal dictatorship Pakistan has ever seen. What is happening to Imaan and Hadi, two young human rights lawyers, is unbelievable and unequivocally condemnable.

This is a very negative development for Pakistan and its human rights track record @ImaanZHazir #HumanRights
Human rights lawyers Imaan Mazari-Hazir and Hadi Ali Chattha deserve justice. Today they were sentenced to ten years in prison on counts of “terrorism.” Their crime? Defending activists, lawyers and marginalized communities that were subjected to enforced disappearances and unjust charges. They underwent an unfair trial for this fearless human rights work. Authorities must immediately release Imaan and Hadi and drop all charges against them.

🇵🇰 A Pakistani anti-terrorism court sentenced prominent human rights lawyers Imaan Mazari and her husband, Hadi Ali Chattha, to 10 years in prison on Thursday. Their sentences will run concurrently with additional one-year and two-year sentences for obstructing and assaulting government servants. Mazari and her husband were accused of holding a protest in 2024 that blocked a road, and thereby endangered an international cricket team’s security plans. They denied the charges, calling themselves “prisoners of conscience” targeted for their human rights work. Mazari’s mother, Shireen Mazari, a former member of Imran Khan’s cabinet, said that they were not allowed access to their lawyer or given key legal documents in the case. The couple had earlier been sentenced to 17 years in prison for social media posts. That sentence was suspended by Pakistan’s Supreme Court—they were re-arrested for the 2024 protest on the same day.
PAKISTAN: Responding to the conviction and ten-year imprisonment of Imaan Mazari-Hazir and Hadi Ali Chattha today by the Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad, Yasmine Ahmed, Senior Director for Regional Human Rights Impact at Amnesty International, said: “These convictions are an indictment of Pakistan’s justice system. This was not just Imaan and Hadi on trial, it was a test of the judiciary’s ability to uphold the principles of justice and the right to fair trial. It has failed that test miserably. It is clear that these ‘anti-terrorism’ charges are being used to punish Imaan and Hadi for their human rights advocacy.” Read more here: amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2…

🚨🚨#BREAKING: While commenting on #Pakistan’s most devoted human rights lawyers @ImaanZHazir and @AdvHadiali latest conviction in a sham jail trial @UN special rapporteur on independence of judges and lawyers @SRjudgeslawyers charge sheets misuse of laws by Pakistani state to muzzle the dissent “The use of anti-terrorism legislation must not undermine fundamental rights or be used to criminalize legitimate human rights advocacy.”
🇵🇰 #Pakistan: I am deeply alarmed by the sentencing of human rights lawyers @ImaanZHazir and @AdvHadiali to 10 years in prison each. The reported concerns surrounding their jail trial, including restrictions on their ability to communicate effectively with counsel, raise serious questions about due process and fair trial guarantees. Noreen Niazi, 70, is hospitalized after severe chest pain. Her family was kept in the dark about her transfer; she was denied her prescribed home medication and has been isolated for over a month. Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, his nephew, and now his sisters—how many family members must be targeted before the world speaks up? Overseas Pakistanis, this is your voice too. Speak up. Demand answers, medical care, and accountability. A 70-year-old woman’s health cannot be a state secret. @UNHumanRights @amnesty @hrw @HRCP87 The world must not look away. #ReleaseImranKhan

Statement by Imran Khan’s son @SulaimanKNiazi: No one has seen or heard from my father since August, when he explicitly said that he was being tortured and that the regime was trying to kill him like Egypt’s government did Morsi. The UN Special Rapporteur on torture has repeatedly stated that his treatment amounts to torture. Pakistan’s fascist regime, led by military dictator Asim Munir, continue to ignore the Supreme Court order from August for my father to be assessed and treated at the private Shifa International Hospital, as well as for regular access to family visits and access to his lawyers. It is clear that they are trying to kill him as he is by far the most popular political figure in the country, and they fear him. If the worst happens, no one should make any mistake who is responsible. It is Asim Munir with the approval of the illegitimate Pakistani government. Every government that continues to legitimise this regime will be complicit in this and the resulting chaos and destabilisation it causes in the region. No state that is engaging in friendly relations with this fascist Pakistani regime can truly claim to uphold the values of democracy or human rights. #FreeImranKhan
