🚨 New report reveals 42 Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo churches have been destroyed by Oromia Region security forces across Horo Guduru Wollega and East Wollega Zones over the past three months; names of 28 churches released
A new report published by Ethio Focus News on October 29th, 2026, documents the destruction, burning and looting of 42 Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo churches across Limu, Gida Ayana and Dengoro Woredas in Horo Guduru Wollega and East Wollega Zones, Oromia Region, over recent months.
According to Ethio Focus News, the attacks occurred amid ongoing violence involving Oromia Region security forces, including Gada Commando units, backed by Ethiopian National Defense Force, and their attack on the Amhara population in the area. The report describes widespread destruction of religious institutions, including historic churches that have served local Orthodox Christian communities for decades. Sources believe the attacks were intended to deprive the Amhara residents of places of refuge and undermine their religious and spiritual morale.
Of the 42 affected churches, Ethio Focus News has released the names and founding years of 28 churches, listed below.
List of the 28 church locations, names and their founding years:

Ethio Focus News stated that information concerning the remaining 14 churches is still being collected and that additional findings will be published as further details emerge.
The reported destruction of these religious institutions adds to concerns about continuing attacks on Amhara and Orthodox Christian communities, widespread displacement and damage to civilian infrastructure across Oromia Region.

Human trafficking is a grave human rights issue and a transnational crime exploiting men, women, and children for profit. We will continue to go after traffickers, protect survivors, and deliver justice for the American people.
