Nothing makes me more bullish about the US than the thought of bringing back nuclear power.
An economy is a machine for turning energy into wealth, and without energy, it all comes to a halt.

A lot of Euros dunking on this, but I have absolutely been in discussions where we decided not to make an otherwise qualified EU team hire because the labor rules so onerous that the risks outweighed the rewards. Making it impossible to fire people absolutely deters hiring.
European hiring rules are genuinely insane.
For example - if you own a company in the Netherlands and one of your employees gets sick, you are required to pay at least 70% of their wages for up to 2 years.
If they can't go back to work after 2 years and you haven't done enough for their reintegration, you pay their wages for 1 more year. And you can't fire them until after that extra year!

As a Dutch person let me tell you it's way worse than it seems.
The AVERAGE stress related absence is 250+ days. The AVERAGE burnout related absence is 300+ days.
While on sick-leave, you can return to work for just 4 weeks and the 2 year period **resets**.
Your employer is forced to assist you in this. They have to pay for doctors, experts, and so on. If they don't, you get an extra year's wages.
While on sick-leave, you can work a second job. As long as this is outside business hours of the first job, or the work is different, your first employer still pays you 70%.
Here's another cool one: you can go on holiday during sick-leave. The employer can force you to use your vacation days for that, but then they have to pay you 100% of your wages rather than 70% during that period.
Simple solution: you just work with contractors right? No, because a contractor can just claim employee status after getting sick. Many such cases.
All of this is obviously broken. If you say this you're met with half-baked "worker's rights" arguments, as you can see in this comment section.

.@AbdulElSayed thinks property tax for seniors should be frozen
I think its generational warfare and that they should sell their houses if they can't afford them. He concedes I'm 'theoretically correct' but practically wrong

Incredible. Endless stories about young people feeling disillusioned, dooming about not being able to even buy a house etc, and yet there is no politician of any party (afaik) that will actually do anything to reduce the boomers’ slice of the pie.

This is one of the reasons salaries are 1/3 what they would be in the US.

We have a 1 hour non-skippable, non-fast forward substance abuse video and test. They sent it at 11:30. It has to be completed by noon.
I started the video and emailed our HR team. They are confused about my complaint that it's impossible to finish a 1 hour course in 30 minutes

If you're a single-issue gas price voter, you should probably spend like 5 minutes looking up how oil prices work. You'd learn that the US president has very little impact on them unless they do something crazy like shut down a pathway for a quarter of the world's oil.

Left-NIMBYISM is much funnier. Yeah, i'm a socialist, except in the case of housing, where I believe in zealously protecting the rights of property owners to form a cartel at the expense of the poor. Let's build some parking lots in city centers for suburbanites to park in!

This is one one the dumbest bs stories I’ve ever heard a politician tell. U telling me this 94 yo woman worth over $4 million needs to work. Ever heard of a HELOC or Reverse Mortgage or of moving?Give me break.
A 94 year old woman forced to work because her social security income is $12,704 a year but her property tax is $19,000.
Bextel says the 94 year old, who lives in Jackson, bought her house for $40,000 in 1960. It now sits on a double lot worth $4.5 million and is falling down around her.
"At 94 years old, she's still working." Bextel says she took a job answering phones at an acupuncture clinic, and that scrapping property tax is the thing she most wants to do as governor.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The post's claim omits that the woman likely qualifies for Teton County's long-term homeowner exemption (50% off assessed value of primary residence for 65+ owners with 25+ years paying WY residential taxes) plus deferral options.

Amanda seyfried (who did not commit any felonies) showed 100x the self reflection of her impact than Elizabeth Holmes (who was convicted of felonies)
what are you even saying lmao
I think Nathan Fielder did a really good job with You Can See Everything. Especially in showing how unwilling Amanda Seyfried was to acknowledge her own role in potentially harming another person. He had everyone looking at one another and questioning everyone else’s intentions, while seemingly being completely unwilling to examine their own behavior. I thought Amanda’s resistance to doing that was especially revealing
I also obviously think Billy is terrible. I think he’s cruel and exploitative. I’ve seen Elizabeth’s tweets for years and thought they were her. Finding out they’re his was jarring and sad.
But as much as I dislike Billy, I think he made a very good point. Why would he care what Amanda thinks? She’s an actress who has profited from portraying his wife as a bizarre and dishonest and manipulative freak to an audience that is largely voyeuristic, incredibly binary in their moral thinking, and seemingly unable to separate fiction from reality
I don’t think that Amanda needed to defend Elizabeth or excuse anything she’s done but I do think it’s bizarre how unwilling she seemed to consider that she might have contributed to another person’s suffering

What makes this depressing is that it theoretically met NIMBY criteria.
Aesthetic, built with local stone, provides cheap groceries during a cost-of-living crisis. All built *literally* on an empty grass field.
But, no dice. They don't actually want to build anything at all.
