"AI could kill us all one day" is the new "climate change is an existential threat"
It's not true, and even if it were true, nobody's willing to do what's necessary to stop it globally, so why worry?
In the long run, we are all dead

I remember 35 years ago in elementary school them talking to us about the climate and recycling and all that bullshit. There was a propaganda kid show back then called Captain planet. At the end of the day, it’s all bullshit and we’re all gonna be dead at some point.
That’s a rhetorical answer and you don’t mean it. It just kind of gets off the hook of thinking about the matter further. hollyelmore.substack.com/p/d…
It’s actually more sinister than that. It is Anthropic an OpenAI pushing this stuff for regulatory capture so open source ai doesnt cut into their businesses. Open source AI is the ONLY way to abundance for regular Americans over the next decade. They want to stamp it down and control the entire space, which will give them outsized influence over our lives.
Buck, you once worked for an agency with letters. We both know that nobody knows what the future of AI is. That stated, this isn’t climate change or global warming. We can’t be Senator Sanders level illogical about AI, but we can’t dismiss it. Maybe I spend too much time around AI people, but the Hugging Face hack from OpenAI was a bit scary. I can’t even explain it, so people need to look that one up for themselves.
This is the same Covid hysteria. “Trust the experts” and “two weeks to slow the curve.” It’s about aggregation of power, concentrated in liberal hands. Liberals will tell you what you can and can’t have and you’ll like it. Additionally, they can’t have AI because it might tell the truth about socialism and communism.
@BuckSexton do you think AI will be smart enough to hack, take over, and launch a nuke? I think that’s the worry.
