We're celebrating the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians' acquisition of 50 acres of ancestral land. Under Governor Newsom's leadership, California has awarded more than $200 million to support the return of over 100,000 acres to California Native American Tribes. This is about more than returning land. It's about addressing historical wrongs, strengthening Tribal sovereignty and supporting generations of stewardship. Land back. Stewardship forward. @CATribalAffairs @tataviam

As we face Santa Ana winds and El Niño conditions, California’s work to protect communities from extreme weather never stops. This @weatherchannel story shows the work state crews have been leading since the 2025 LA fires — adding new protections for communities in case of post-fire debris flows.

Cal OES crews are on the move today, delivering sandbags at the request of Orange County as El Niño-driven high tides threaten coastal communities. This is one more way @Cal_OES is supporting local partners and taking proactive steps to help protect communities from coastal impacts. We're working together to keep Californians safe and prepared and stand ready to provide additional support this El Niño storm season.

Preparing for El Niño means acting before storms hit. Here's how we're moving faster to get critical flood and storm protection projects underway ⬇️   Under @CAgovernor Newsom's emergency action, certain state laws can be suspended for qualifying work, helping streamline permitting and environmental review, accelerate floodwater diversion efforts and remove barriers that could delay projects protecting people and communities.   We're also partnering with the @CA_Trans_Agency to identify vulnerable stretches of Highway 1 and advance protections for the coastal communities that depend on this vital route.   📣 Local public agencies: Need to fast-track an eligible storm preparedness project? 🌊 A Coastal Flood Warning is in effect for coastal areas of San Diego and Orange counties through October 29. Dangerous King Tides, combined with the potential impacts of El Niño, could increase coastal flooding, erosion, and inundation risks for low-lying roads and property. ⚠️ If you will be in affected areas: - Stay out of the water and away from hazardous surf. - Never drive around barricades or through flooded roads. - Avoid flooded areas and never enter water of unknown depth. - Stay alert, monitor local advisories and take precautions to protect yourself and your property. Check the latest forecasts and alerts at weather.gov.

The weather may be changing but the threat of wildfire remains.👇
Don’t let cooler weather fool you. 🍂 Fall has historically brought some of California’s largest and most destructive wildfires. Dry vegetation, wind, and low humidity can still create dangerous conditions. Give your home a safety check: 🌿 Move combustible materials at least five feet from your home. 🏠 Clear leaves and debris from roofs and rain gutters. 🔥 Check that vents are ember-resistant; this means 1/16-inch to 1/8-inch corrosion-resistant, non-combustible metal mesh designed to block wind-driven fire embers and flames from entering a structure’s attic, crawl space, or eaves during a wildfire. Cooler weather doesn’t mean the wildfire threat is over. Stay vigilant, and don’t let your guard down.
