Nieuwe studie in The Lancet: Covid-19 is niet "zoals griep".

Cognitive impairment after COVID is still there five years out - memory, attention, focus, slower processing, orientation, decision making. Severe COVID clearly raises dementia risk too. The largest, longest study on this so far. 18M adults in England, up to 5.5 years of follow-up. 🧵

This is a very interesting study from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. It suggests that SARS-CoV-2 may be evolving in a way that makes it increasingly difficult for the human immune system to recognize the virus in the first place—not simply harder for existing antibodies to neutralize it. So now one has to wonder whether if fewer naïve human B cells can recognize an evolved virus, will the vaccines even work? Will they have a difficult time recruiting genuinely new B-cell specificities? Doesn't this seem like an issue worth considering @FDADrugs @FDA @CDC @NIHDirector_Jay? Obviously covid infections don't affect you the same way each time. We've known that for six years, right from the very earliest infections. Different short term impacts, different long term impacts. A friend of mine has just been hospitalised by his *sixth* infection. 😥

Ebola’s spread to Nigeria and Kenya is a disaster. Any local community spread in these populous countries will herald travel restrictions, first regionally, then globally. BDBV is a slow motion train wreck. It will jump more borders. It could shut down travel from large parts of Africa. There will be imported cases in the developed world.

🚨🇫🇷 BREAKING: France has confirmed the world’s FIRST known human infection with the Shamonda virus... The patient has died. It was previously believed to only affect animals. First identified in Nigeria in the 1960s, it spreads through tiny biting insects called midges and has been circulating among European livestock throughout 2026. Now it has jumped to a human for the first time in recorded history... French authorities say there is currently no evidence of widespread human transmission and no identified risk to the general population. For now. Source: Reuters / Writers: Mhedi, Michael

FYI, "It is estimated that at least 400 million individuals worldwide currently suffer from long COVID. Common symptoms [of long COVID] include chronic fatigue, shortness of breath, brain fog or exercise-intolerance.. [Furthermore,] acute infections can contribute to the development of new chronic diseases, including cancer.. Large cohort studies have shown increased post-acute risks of chronic conditions including new onset of diabetes and autoimmunity development after SARS-CoV-2 infection.. elevated cardiovascular risk can persist for months.. even acute, non-persistent infections can influence cancer biology.. For instance, prior severe respiratory viral infection with SARS-CoV-2 or influenza was linked to accelerated lung cancer growth in mouse models and increased subsequent lung cancer risk among patients hospitalized for COVID-19.."
