#RiverOfLight | Coloured Peonies 🌺 🧑‍🎨 TILT 📍 Cunard Building, The Strand 📅 23 October - 1 November Coloured Peonies is a striking, monumental light installation. Standing six metres high, these giant botanical light sculptures present a graceful, natural elegance during the day with their delicate, finely cut white petals. As night falls, the artwork comes alive through dynamic, synchronised lighting sequences, transforming the site into a glowing canopy of ever-changing hues. Average families will get increase in income of around 1.4%. Inflation is running at over 3.5%. Instead of protecting people from the cost of living crisis, this #Budget2027 is going to mean more deprivation, more poverty and a harder struggle to get by.

Looking down a twilight Dale Street, Liverpool on this day in 2014. The architecture speaks for itself, but take a look in the background - the Churchill Way Flyover actually looks quite elegant curving into the city in this light😀 It’s been gone for a few years now. Do you miss driving over the flyover, or is the city centre better off without it?

The Amazon makes its own rain. Trees release so much moisture that they create ~50% of the region's rainfall. Cut enough of them down and the forest doesn't just shrink. It stops being able to make the water it needs to survive.

A trans music teacher showed up, taught children to sing, and said nothing about her identity. That was apparently enough. I've looked at what the law actually says, and it's not what these parents are claiming. helenwebberley.com/news/pare…

Unite are calling for stronger measures to deal with aggressive, disruptive and unruly passengers in airports before they board flights and become an issue for the staff and passengers alike. Can you spare 1 minute to email your MP? Please join us in calling on them to support MP Peter Lamb's Early Day Motion urging the the Government to support: ✈ The introduction of a traffic-light banning system for repeat offenders, ✈ Stronger physical security measures for the protection of staff, and ✈ Access to counselling services for workers suffering mental health impacts as a consequence of such abuse. actionnetwork.org/letters/as… @PeterKLamb

An interesting example of municipalisation - the blocks were renovated and converted into council flats
Milner Square at Islington was laid out between 1841 and 1850 to attract middle class residents who wished to live away from the dirty, noisy City. By the early 20thC the middle class families had moved away. In the 1970s Islington Council acquired the houses for regeneration.

In December 1888, Vincent van Gogh cut off part of his own ear, wrapped it in paper, and handed it to a prostitute. A few months later, frightened of himself and of what he might do next, he asked to be admitted to an asylum in Saint-Rémy, in the south of France. He was thirty-six, and he would spend the next year there. In the warmer months he painted the asylum garden, the olive groves, the hills. But winter came, and with it more attacks, and there were long stretches when he could barely go outside. So he painted from prints his brother Theo sent him, black-and-white engravings by artists he loved, and in February 1890 he picked one by Gustave Doré: the exercise yard of Newgate Prison in London. He kept the scene almost exactly as Doré drew it: a ring of men walks in a slow circle on a stone floor, round and round, hemmed in by brick walls that rise so high there's no sky left at the top. What Van Gogh added was color, and he chose the colors of a cold cell: grey-blue, sickly green, a little dull ochre, nothing warm anywhere. The man in the middle of the circle, the tall one without a hat, is the only prisoner whose face catches the light, and the only one who isn't looking at the ground. He's looking out, at you. Many believe he has Van Gogh's own features. There's no proof, but it's hard to look at that face, painted by a man living behind bars of his own, and not wonder... Vincent never thought of these paintings as mere copies, and in a letter to Theo from the asylum, he explained that working from another artist's prints was really "translating into another language, the one of colors." Five months after he finished this one, he was dead.

Our conference chat-up line: “Have you read the small print?” It’s working. We’re having brilliant conversations at Conservative Party Conference about how conversion practices legislation could harm lesbians, gay men and bisexual people. Come for the homosexuals. Stay for the legislative scrutiny. #ItsOkayToBeGay #CPC2026
