Fundamental Friday: Serial Beaters
With a quarter of the S&P 500 through its third-quarter reports by last Friday, 83% of those companies had beaten analysts’ earnings estimates, according to FactSet.
It sounds like a blowout quarter. It isn’t: the 5-year average is 78% and the 10-year average 77%. Beating the estimate is simply what most companies do, most of the time.

ServiceNow ($NOW ): the order book tells the story...
If Alphabet’s drop was spectacular, Servicenow's was brutal. The enterprise software company lost 27% after a revenue outlook that disappointed investors. What made it worse is that the weakness appears in the order book, which suggests a real slowdown rather than a timing issue.

FICO punished for not raising prices
FAIR ISAAC CORP ($FICO | ▼13.15%) dropped 13% after announcing it will lock the price of its mortgage credit score at $10 per score for members of a premium package. Almost every US bank uses FICO scores to assess borrowers, and many lenders will likely take the offer. The problem is that the market expected FICO to keep raising prices sharply to grow profits. Wells Fargo was disappointed and cut its price target from $800 to $735.
Cybersecurity: a patch, a warning and a rally
Cybersecurity stocks wrapped up the week in style. CROWDSTRIKE HOLDINGS INC - A ($CRWD | ▲8.25%) gained more than 8%, ZSCALER INC ($ZS | ▲7.31%) and PALO ALTO NETWORKS INC ($PANW | ▲7.22%) both rose more than 7%, and the GLOBAL X CYBERSECURITY ETF ($BUG | ▲4.98%) closed almost 5% higher.
BIG news for Minervini-style VCP traders!
Two charts. Zero minutes of searching.
After yesterday's close, ChartMill flagged SiriusPoint ($SPNT) and PRA Group ($PRAA). Both are in a confirmed uptrend, both have been tightening into a Volatility Contraction Pattern for weeks, and both are still trading just below their VCP high. I didn't scroll through a single chart to find them. The screen did that for me.
That's our new VCP screen, and you won't find it anywhere else.
We built the pattern detection in-house: ChartMill now recognizes the VCP itself on daily and weekly charts, measures every contraction, and combines it with Mark Minervini's Trend Template in one screen. Trend, contractions, tightness, distance to the pivot. All checked before you open a chart.

APPLIED MATERIALS INC ( $AMAT | ▼6.69%) was among the biggest losers on Wall Street. At a chip industry conference, investors hoped CEO Gary Dickerson would put a number on equipment demand for the coming quarters.
He didn't. He said demand for computing capacity would keep growing very strongly, and the company announced a $5 billion facility designed to speed up the development of AI chips.
