His wife is FIGHTING FOR HER LIFE in the hospital right now. His name was Dr. Idris Evans. He was 46. He was a pediatric critical care physician at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. He ran the team that transports the sickest children in the region, the babies and kids so critical they have to be moved between hospitals just to survive. Just after midnight Thursday, police say a Black man, Elijah Hemingway, got into his home in Edgewood and attacked him and his wife while they were asleep in their bed. His wife told police they fought back with everything they had. Their two children, 8 and 12 years old, made it out alive. Their father didn't. When first responders got there, they found Dr. Evans in a third-floor bedroom, he pa His wife is still in critical condition tonight. A police dog tracked down 32-year-old Elijah Hemingway hiding behind a nearby house with cuts on his hand. He's now charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, burglary, and criminal trespass. Back in February, according to a criminal complaint, Hemingway forced his way into his ex-partner's home and stole her laptop and two cell phones. He was arrested in July. Two felonies.
