I am of the view and have a strong suspicion that the South African government has adopted and applied many of the dirty tricks of the Apartheid regime and in doing so, have embraced much of the paranoia of the time. Things are not getting any better. During Mandela's reign, you send an email to the Presidency, you get a response promptly. Mbeki's reign you do the same, they respond and refer you. During Zuma's term you send an email within seconds (literally) Lakela Kaunda responds. Your question needs a higher level of authority, Dr Ngqulunga responds promptly. Hiyoh - then you send an email during Covid about something needing attention. No response. You resend it after a week - error message, your email address has been blocked by the server of the recipient. Fast forward to 2023 you send from an alternative email address. Response is swift. You write back. 2026 you need to refer the earlier received response and miraculously, it's as though it had never arrived. The two people you copied, can't retrieve their copies either. Maybe they were hacked and data deleted permanently. It's those little things that scare me. Who knows perhaps the file name says, 'persona non grata' or 'not worthy of any recognition'. And, don't jump down my throat because there's a further reason for this fear. Sisenjeni shame.
