He asked for ice cream for his last meal. When he didn't finish it, he asked the guards to save the rest for later. He didn't understand there would be no later. August 1936, Pueblo, Colorado. Someone broke into the Drain family home and attacked two sleeping sisters with a hatchet. Fifteen-year-old Dorothy was killed. Twelve-year-old Barbara survived. Days later, railroad police in Cheyenne, Wyoming, picked up a drifter named Joe Arridy. He was 21, had an IQ of 46, and had wandered away from a state school for the intellectually disabled. He couldn't count past five, tell colors apart, or name the days of the week. A sheriff questioned him and announced Joe had confessed. There was a problem. Pueblo police had already arrested the man they believed did it: Frank Aguilar, who had once worked for the girls' father and was found with a hatchet head matching the wounds. Aguilar was convicted and executed. Joe was convicted anyway, on the strength of that confession. On death row, Warden Roy Best grew so fond of him that he brought him toys. Joe's favorite was a wind-up train he'd roll down the corridor for other prisoners to send back. Best called him "the happiest prisoner on death row." The day before his execution, Joe gave his train to another condemned man, Angelo Agnes. On January 6, 1939, he walked to the gas chamber smiling. The warden wept. In 2011, Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter granted Joe Arridy a full posthumous pardon, citing "the great likelihood" he was innocent and a coerced false confession. It was the first posthumous pardon in Colorado history. A pardon can restore a name. It can't bring back a life. Should a confession from someone who couldn't understand it ever be enough? Disclaimer: Details of his last days come from the warden and newspaper accounts of the time. The 2011 pardon found he was very likely innocent; no court ever retried the case. On this day in 1929, Black Tuesday, Wall Street broke. The day before, the Dow had already fallen nearly 13%. On Tuesday it dropped almost 12% more. By mid-November it had lost almost half its value, and the slide kept going until the summer of 1932, when the Dow closed at 41.22, 89% below its September 1929 peak. It didn't get back to that high until November 1954, twenty-five years later. What fueled the boom? Borrowed money. Ordinary folks bought stocks by putting down about 10% and borrowing the rest. Just two weeks before the crash, economist Irving Fisher said stocks had reached "what looks like a permanently high plateau." For me, the lesson is simple. Debt makes everything look great right up until it doesn't, whether it's a family, a brokerage account, or a government in Washington. #OnThisDay #BlackTuesday #History

Somebody’s wife is three aisles over wondering where the hell he went. I’m headed to Sam’s in a bit, and if I see anything half this funny, my day will be made. I’ll be no help whatsoever. Just standing there laughing with my legs crossed trying not to pee a little. 😂

Let’s go, Texas! TEXAS WILL STAY RED! This is still the heart of America. Freedom over chaos. Strength over weakness. Vote red and keep Texas the way it should be.

Bob Ross gave us happy little trees, happy little clouds, and one of the most unforgettable hairstyles in television history. But here's something funny. That famous curly hair? He only got it because he was trying to save money. 😂 Before The Joy of Painting made him a household name, Ross was working to build a career teaching art. Money was tight, and he figured getting a perm would mean fewer trips to the barber. There was just one problem. He didn't particularly like the hairstyle. And by the time he wanted to change it, those curls had become part of his identity. His face, complete with that enormous halo of hair, was even featured on the Bob Ross company logo. According to his longtime business partner, Annette Kowalski, his hair was naturally straight. The perm was simply a practical decision that got wildly out of hand. Imagine getting a hairstyle to save a few dollars, only to discover you've accidentally made it your permanent trademark! Bob Ross was born on October 29, 1942, and would have turned 84 today. Happy birthday to the man who taught us that there are no mistakes, just happy little accidents. And apparently, sometimes those accidents come with curls. 🎨❤️

Today my focus is on Philippians 4:6-7: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Paul wrote those words while he was in chains, not on vacation. He had every reason to worry, and he chose to pray and give thanks instead. Five days before an election, with every poll and pundit telling us to panic, I needed that reminder. I will vote, I will pray for this country, and then I will leave the outcome where it belongs. The peace Paul describes doesn't depend on a headline. Have a blessed day, 𝕏 friends.🙏 #Faith #Philippians #Prayer

Before Mom needed help with her phone, she could shift gears, change the cassette, and break boys’ hearts. (Lie. I was too shy) Now y’all see her asking where her screenshots went and think she’s always been this helpless. Honey, she used to downshift around a corner while finding her favorite song. How many can still drive a stick shift? Maybe a frog hop or two and one or two ground gears, but it wouldn’t take me long. 😂

Kathy Hochul and Zohran Mamdani: putting criminals over citizens. New Yorkers 🗽deserve leaders who protect them, not ones who put ideology and criminals first. New York 🗽 deserves far better than this.

Moral of the story: Don’t run from the police. That FedEx truck wasn’t running late—it was right on time to deliver the FAFO. You can dodge a cop car for a few blocks, but you can’t dodge the consequences, the semi, or basic physics. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

That's a proud army dad with his baby boy up on his shoulders. 🇺🇸 This little guy moved all over the place growing up. Military kids know exactly what that's like. Little did anybody know he'd end up in our living rooms every single week. Who is he?

Definitely the best sequel in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. “Welcome to prime time, bitch” is still one of the most iconic lines ever dropped in a horror movie. Freddy was in full savage mode and it never gets old.

Georgia just broke its early voting record, and there are still two days to go. As of Wednesday, more than 2.04 million Georgians had voted early in person, already 22% more than the entire early voting period in 2022, per the Secretary of State's office. Add about 100,000 absentee ballots and the state is near 2.1 million. Early voting ends Friday, Oct. 30. Remember when we were told Georgia's 2021 election law would keep people from voting? Record turnout says otherwise. Polls show Jon Ossoff ahead of Mike Collins in the Senate race, but the governor's race between Rick Jackson and Keisha Lance Bottoms is a coin flip. Georgia, if you haven't voted yet, Friday is your day. Will you make it count? #Georgia #Midterms2026 #ElectionIntegrity
