It bugs me the number of stories Iโve read about people seeing Wildwood in theaters and involving an angry mom upset at the content and claiming โthe film is for children, so why does it have this and thatโand blah blah blah.
While the film is rated PG-13, I donโt think Wildwood is trying to be for children. Itโs tame enough that children could see it (depending on the child), but thatโs different from something specifically catering to that demographic.
Wildwood is just telling the story the creators want to tell, unapologetically the art piece they want it to be. The rating comes after.
If this is people, yet again, saying the film is for kids just because itโs animated, you all shouldโve snapped out of that mindset years ago. Animated content for adults and family films with mature elements are not new.

So, Wildwood is terrific. A lot of old folks like me wish for the dark, quasi-traumatic family film of our youths. We donโt get them very often, but Wildwood fits the bill. High fantasy, real stakes, complicated characters, incredible animation. Long live Laika.

The third act of this movie is probably the most impressed by a movie I have ever been in my entire life.

Just saw Wildwood as a treat to myself and it genuinely pisses me off that we only get like one of these kinds of movies every 5-10 years. And I donโt just mean stop motion cause obviously that's about the turnaround time, I mean a movie that is this unflinchingly BOLD.
