So here is the gist. You know that legendary traffic snack, roadside plantain chips? Golden, shiny, looking like pure gold packaged in transparent nylon. As an agricultural person who knows a thing or two, I love good plantain chips. But have you ever noticed a strange physics mystery?
When you fry your own homemade plantain chips at home, if you leave it open on the kitchen counter for just 30 minutes? Ah-ah! Soft tire! It becomes soggy and cold. But roadside plantain chips? Guy, you can buy it on a Monday, forget it inside your car boot till Sunday, open it, and it's still shouting kain-kain with crispiness! Is it juju? Is it science? 😩
Enter my big sis today. She walked into the house with the expression of someone who just discovered that pure water is actually expensive champagne. She looked at me, shook her head, and dropped a bomb: They add nylon or pure water plastics into the hot oil while frying so it stays crunchy forever! 💀💀
My chest held my breath! Which way, Nigeria?! In my head, I was calculating how I am slowly turning into a recycling plant. From today henceforth, if I want plantain chips, I'm going straight to the kitchen to fry my own organic, chemical-free version, or I'll just manage Gala. Most business owners who are into beverages contact these people whenever they have a large quantity of any expired product.
These guys take the job, use some chemicals to wipe off the expiration dates to revalidate and then repack the product. Then supply it back to the business owners, and the business owners then comfortable sell it to the public, and at the end of the month take their tithe to the church for double blessings.
They should be arrested and made to call the names of the business owners that contacted them, that is the only way we can clean this mess in our society.
