Ian Bremmer tells @chucktodd that Trump is engaging with Putin because Zelenskyy refused to stop attacking Russian oil refineries.
@ianbremmer: "He privately told Zelenskyy to cut it out. Zelenskyy said no. He publicly told Zelenskyy to cut it out. Zelenskyy said no, and [Trump] finally said, 'Screw it, I'm going to do a deal with Putin.'"

Ian Bremmer tells @chucktodd that Elon Musk's business interests make for an “utterly unsustainable” geopolitical portfolio.
@ianbremmer: “You and I both know an awful lot of older men that are utterly fucking brilliant at certain things and then decide that they're utterly fucking brilliant at everything. ... And they're not. And they don't understand how to stay in their lane. ... And Elon is, you know, like literally witness number one for that behavior.”

Careful assuming only one side does these things. See FL GOP and the state senate in 2020. The question is whether there is a big enough constituency that either believes politics should be better than this or whether most folks assume politics is this cut throat and it’s just part of the “small d” democratic bargain. I imagine quite a few folks see this thru their red or blue glasses more than there are folks who see this thru purely ethical glasses. But in a close race, everything will be seen as mattering.

Chuck Todd tells @ianbremmer that he thinks Elon Musk will be the main target of a Democratic Congress amid questions over Starlink access in Ukraine.
@chucktodd: “Single biggest donor to the Republican Party. ... Why shouldn't somebody connect these dots? ... A massive check comes in to fund the most vulnerable Republican candidate running in the country right now.”

It wasn’t THAT long ago in American political discourse that accusing an opponent of this would be considered beyond the pale
Sen. @RogerMarshallMD (R-KS) on opponent Adam Hamilton (D): "He pushes drag shows for kids...is that grooming? Yeah, he probably is grooming."

Ian Bremmer tells @chucktodd he wonders if JD Vance has a “hedge” as his support of Trump and Ramaswamy raise questions about the future of his political career.
@ianbremmer: “He's the guy that's got Elon on his side. He's the guy that has the deep pockets.”

Really enjoyed sitting down with @amurfett for a conversation about what I've been up to lately and what's next.
It's always refreshing to have the opportunity to reflect, talk about the evolving media landscape, and share a little more about the work I'm doing.
Thanks to Andrew for the thoughtful conversation and for putting this feature together. Give it a read!

This is the damage Ramaswamy and the operatives who enabled this awful tactic have done. But, hey, “it’s just politics” right? As Joseph Welch famously said at the McCarthy hearings: “Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?”
Amy Acton's stepfather's surviving biological daughter spoke to The Daily Mail when they knocked on her door in Ohio, while sobbing.
She said: She believed Amy's story, because her father raped her sister more than once (the victim in this 1974 indictment); she remembered Amy lived in a tent with Donna and Cledith; it's been terrible for her family to see Vivek's ad run in Ohio; and she heard rumors her father had victimized even more young girls.
Surprise? It’s still October
BREAKING: NYT reports that operatives with Democratic Alaska U.S. Senate candidate Mary Peltola’s campaign were behind the effort to find & recruit a candidate named Dan Sullivan to run against incumbent GOP Senator Dan S. Sullivan in an effort to confuse voters and peel votes from him.
Specifically, NYT says they have reviewed text messages and documents that reveal in summer 2025, a Peltola staffer received instructions from campaign staffers to find as many people named Dan Sullivan in Alaska as possible.
The staffer complied, going through voter records, and compiled a list. The operation “involved secret trips to far-flung Alaskan communities and the appearance of a mysterious Midwestern operative, who traversed the state using a fake name and made his pitch to would-be candidates over beers at brew pubs.”
Per NYT:
“The plan worked. This spring, a retired teacher from a tiny fishing village along the Alaska Panhandle, reachable only by air and sea, announced his candidacy for Senate. His name was Dan J. Sullivan.”

Miami Herald: CBS News says it “did not accurately portray” Angie Nixon’s Cuba views
CBS News triggered a domino effect of Democratic denunciations of the Castro regime after claiming Monday that Democratic Senate candidate Angie Nixon declined to call the communist country a dictatorship, then later deleting its post on social media because it “did not accurately” portray her answer.
