Today’s @irishdailymail publishes an article stating that @CarrollJennifer “has dismissed concerns about a conference on breastfeeding that was set to host a speaker who specialises in helping men lactate for ‘curiosity, fun, or sexual gratification.” McNeill said “I think there’s a lot of different issues in gender healthcare… but I think this story has been taken & made something more than it is. And I think I will leave it at that.” So if a senior Irish Minister is not prepared to stand up for the most vulnerable in our society, newborn infants, from what is clearly a breach of safeguarding, what use is she to us here in Ireland? As Sarah Carey stated in the @Independent_ie “If mainstream parties want to keep the far right out, their task is straightforward, if challenging, take your voters’ concerns seriously. Stop shaming them for their opinions. Or as a commentator in the Financial Times put it this week, “If reasonable people don’t address reasonable voters’ reasonable concerns then unreasonable people will.” It is very reasonable to expect the Minister for Health to take the safeguarding of infants very seriously. If she can’t or won’t do that, she must step aside and allow someone who will. Babies are not props for men’s fetishes.
