During the COVID-19 pandemic, Said and his associates submitted fraudulent claims for meals supposedly provided to thousands of needy children. Prosecutors revealed that Safari Restaurant claimed as many as 6,000 meals daily, while FBI surveillance showed approximately 40 people collecting food per day. Said was convicted on 21 federal counts involving wire fraud, bribery, and money laundering. The stolen funds helped finance luxury homes, expensive vehicles, and other personal purchases. The larger Feeding Our Future scandal involved approximately $250 million in fraudulent claims against a federally funded child nutrition program. This was taxpayer money intended to feed vulnerable children during a national emergency. Instead, it was exploited for personal enrichment. Thirty years in federal prison.
