Unwritten rule of baseball:
The second your catcher is done catching your bullpen, shake his hand and say thank you.
He just took a beating back there so you could get better.
Act like it. ⚾

Shout out to the people that aren’t fans of the Brewers or the Rays, but they’re still up at midnight watching the 12th inning of the World Series because it might be the last chance to watch baseball for 5 months. The true baseball fans.

I came across a video of a college baseball coach in Texas talking about their recruiting process.
He broke down their numbers:
300 players on their initial list.
60–70 phone calls.
35 offers.
26 visits.
10–12 players signed.
But what really caught my attention was something else he said.
He’s LOOKING for reasons to cross players off that list.
The quicker a player shows he’s not a fit, the easier his job becomes.
Think about that.
The next time you’re playing your third game of the day, it’s 95 degrees, you’re exhausted, and you hit a routine ground ball to shortstop…
Run your ass down the line.
You never know who’s watching.
And you have no idea how quickly you can go from being ON a coach’s list to OFF it.

If you are a travel baseball program that is playing in a national FALL event, college coaches come to see a student athlete, and that athlete specifically lets the travel coaches know in advance that coaches are coming to watch a WWBA FALL event, and you sit that athlete for the entire game, without notifying why, turn in your “ coaching “ card and simply come out and tell families its all about the $$ nothing to do with development! Brutal decision by a “ national “ program?

It’s becoming impossible to ignore the physicality of Division I baseball.
The average D1 roster is around 198 pounds.
Does a high school recruit need to be 198 pounds? Of course not.
But he needs to show that he’s trending toward the physicality required at that level.
With only 34 roster spots, coaches have less room to recruit players who are years away. They need players who can compete and contribute sooner.
Skill will always matter. Projection will always matter.
But strength, movement and physical development have become a major part of the recruiting conversation.
You don’t have to look like a college player yet.
But coaches need to be able to see one coming.

COACHES: In recent years, more and more MLB, MiLB and college hitters have asked me for this one specific thing to get them locked back in...
Arm BP.
Some organizations do so much machine work that hitters lose their timing and rhythm against a live arm.
Sometimes, the answer isn’t more machine.
It’s simply seeing the ball from a live arm again.
A simple BP session has helped so many hitters get their timing back, regain their confidence and get locked back in.

One of the biggest mistakes I see in recruiting... 👇
Young players acting like certain opportunities are "beneath" them.
A chance to play college baseball...at the NCAA Division I, II, III, JUCO, or NAIA level - is something very few people ever get.
Someone believes in you.
Someone is willing to invest time, money, coaching, and a roster spot in your future.
That's not something to take for granted.
That's something to be humbled by.
Be grateful. Keep developing. Keep earning.
The logo on the jersey doesn't determine how far you'll go.
Your work ethic, development, and performance does. ⚾️

I watch a lot of HS and Travel Baseball and here’s what gets evaluated that most players/coaches/understand:
1. Catch Play - how do you treat “getting loose” before a game? Is there meaning to it or are you just throwing to throw….
2. Ground Balls between innings - 7-3-21
7 inn, 3 GBs/inn, 21 reps/game. How do you treat those? How are your throws?
3. On Deck Reps - What are you doing to prepare for your AB? You have three responsibilities. 1. Time the Pitcher, 2. Communicate w/base runners 3. Relay location to hitter. You’re not there to “get loose”
4. Response to Failure - how do you respond to a Strikeout, an error, a bad call, giving up a bomb?
5. Communication - Are you talking between pitches, directing cutoffs, helping teammates w/ pitcher tendencies, etc.
6. Competitiveness In Non Game Situations sprinting on and off the field, backing up bases, prep steps, moving with hitters tendencies, does every pitch matter?
These are the aspects of the game that are often taken for granted but make a huge difference for your evaluation.
