I wonder to what extent UK 🇬🇧 political parties will consider such research in formulating welfare policies that are fit for purpose in the C21st ahead of the next General Election.🗳️
Certainly, a 10 year plan should …
New DeepMind Institute essay: "What is work for? Human wellbeing and the value of work in the AGI era."
The empirical evidence shows that many people value their jobs beyond earning a salary, and the importance of agency, status, and meaning. At the same time, we investigate alternate sources of wellbeing, and the possibility that societal norms around work may change over time.

Recovery of funds already disbursed / committed by the U.K. would amount to something in the order of £35bn. Quite the boost to HMT’s ‘headroom’ ahead of an election. 🧐
Sound. For too long, western governments have confined themselves to ‘cutting, borrowing or taxing’ - time it was for the entrepreneurial state to ‘invest’.
Canada’s sovereignty depends on our ability to build, adopt, and govern AI on our own terms.
That’s why Canada is taking an equity stake in Cohere — one of the world’s leading builders of secure AI.
Sovereign AI. Built here at home.

vulnzero. the scaling laws will have driven cyber mythos-class capabilities into small, cheap models and all software dev everywhere will be using models for fractions of pennies on the dollar to stop shipping security bugs permanently.
Of course, it could simply result in mass migration from on-prem servers to hyperscalers … with whom large AI companies have increasingly ‘close’ relationships. 🧐
Interesting - given today’s Budget:

Today, software makers are largely shielded from the cost of their own software's security flaws. When hacks happen, it is customers & the wider economy that pick up the bill. Making vendors liable would be the biggest shift in incentives for how software gets built in decades.
Technically, the Government is devolving 20% of business rate revenues that it just reduced by ~0.5% (when offsets for gambling / vape shops are taken into account). It retained the (potentially) big win - VAT on online marketplace traders - for the Centre. 🧐
The forecast VAT during the first full year of implementation is x10 the traditional biz rate take.
Does this set or entrench a precedent for revenues from digital and online businesses being retained/disbursed by the Centre over time?

A new model of public service? Or transactionalising neighbourliness?

Not the best weather today - I blame the SatNav for the “scenic route” - but still every bit as stunning 🤩
This is the AI upskilling that’s urgently required @cipd if the aim is a ‘smooth transition’ without permanent scarring akin to the rapid deindustrialisation witnessed during the 1980’s #TAI

what type of vacancies? where are they concentrated? Armed with that info, we could better support NEETs (and incentivise mobility). But, would still need to acknowledge there are insufficient vacancies to move the dial on unemployment decisively. Help people start businesses.
Job vacancies fall below 700,000 for first time in over five years bit.ly/4hWPc45
