"Inclusive entrepreneurship training cannot be achieved by inviting people into a programme that was not designed with their needs in mind." Following the graduation of 67 entrepreneurs from the #WeCanWork Academy in Nakawa, Carol Mugide reflects on what it actually takes to build inclusive enterprise infrastructure. It is not just about delivering training. It is about designing accessibility from the outset, integrating lived experience into the classroom, and connecting graduates to the wider market. As the #GirlsAgenda2026 Conference came to a close, delegates reaffirmed the need to turn commitments into action to advance girls’ rights, education, protection and health. Discussions highlighted the importance of integrating menstrual health and hygiene into education data systems, including EMIS, to strengthen tracking, reporting and accountability. Participants also called for increased investment, dedicated menstrual health budget lines, safe and accessible school sanitation facilities, affordable menstrual products, and stronger engagement of boys, men, families and community leaders. Girls’ voices remained central, with calls for practical solutions that respond to their lived experiences and ensure that no girl is left behind. The Girls Agenda Declaration reaffirmed the need for sustained collective action, adequate investment, stronger partnerships and accountability. Delegates also called for greater regional collaboration and policy alignment, including elevating menstrual health and hygiene on the African Union agenda. Commitments must translate into funded, measurable action that enables every girl to learn, thrive and live with dignity. #MenstrualJusticeForAll

Our Menstrual Health & Hygiene side event at #GirlsAgenda2026 opened with a powerful call to move beyond awareness and strengthen the systems, policies and accountability needed to advance menstrual justice. The opening remarks highlighted the importance of government and civil society partnerships, normalising conversations about menstruation, and ensuring access to sanitary products, water, sanitation, safe changing spaces and menstrual pain management. The discussion also emphasized the links between menstrual health, girls’ education, human rights and gender equality, calling for stronger policies, supportive school environments and sustained investment.@FJS Menstrual health is not just about sanitary pads, it is about dignity, rights and equal opportunities. Every girl deserves to learn, participate and thrive without menstrual stigma or barriers. #MenstrualJusticeForAll

Teenage pregnancy is not just a health issue it is a social, cultural and economic challenge. To end the cycle, we must tackle poverty, period poverty, child marriage and harmful social norms while keeping girls in school and empowering young people as leaders of change. Together, we can protect dignity, unlock potential and secure Uganda’s future. #EndTeenagePregnancy #YouthLeadership #KeepGirlsInSchool
"Teenage pregnancy is not just a health issue; it is influenced by culture, period poverty, loss of dignity while in school, and early marriages driven by poverty. Addressing it requires us to look beyond the symptoms and tackle the social realities affecting young people." @ElmaKapelChalla Regional Youth Member of Parliament, Northern Region, Uganda. #ReachAHandAfrica #EndTeenagePregnancy #LinkLearnAct

Access to affordable menstrual products is not a luxury—it's a necessity for working women. Every day, countless women balance demanding jobs, family responsibilities, and personal commitments. Yet many still struggle to afford basic menstrual products.

Together for a period- friendly world
Through a Menstrual Justice Academy alumni project led by @wabibipads at Moroto High School, more learners now have trusted peers to turn to for menstrual health information and support. A growing culture of openness is helping to break stigma, while both girls and boys are championing menstrual justice and creating a more inclusive, period-friendly school environment. With emergency reusable menstrual products now available at school, girls are better supported to stay in class and continue learning with confidence when their periods begin unexpectedly. This is what happens when young leaders are empowered to champion menstrual justice in their communities. @FJS #MenstrualJusticeForAll #MenstrualJusticeAcademy2026
