After a three week lull, Ukraine has hit two large Russian refineries in the last 48 hours. Drones heavily damaged the 165,000 b/d Novokuibshevsk refinery Thursday night, and last night saw drones knock out a catalytic reformer at the huge 470,000 b/d refinery at Ufa.

Russia to extend diesel export ban until late January 2027 — Novak
The Russian government is preparing to extend its diesel export ban until the end of January 2027, with certain exceptions for global markets, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak told reporters.
"Yes, a government decree is currently being drafted to extend the ban on diesel shipments until the end of January next year - effectively for three months. However, as before, specific exceptions will be made for supplies to global markets," Novak said.
Novak told TASS that Russia was beginning to lift its diesel export ban ahead of schedule. He noted that Russia had already dispatched three tankers carrying Russian diesel to the United States, with a fourth scheduled to depart on October 29. Russian companies may export 500,000 tonnes of diesel in October under agreements to supply the US and global markets. (TASS)

MORE: Rezaei’s views are consistent with the Iranian official view, which demands that the United States first implement Iran’s conditions, including lifting the US naval blockade, releasing Iranian frozen assets, and recognizing Iran’s claimed authority over the Strait of Hormuz. IRGC-affiliated Tasnim News Agency reported on October 29 that Iran had not yet responded to the letter and still considers any departure from its seven conditions “unacceptable.”
NEW: Iran is unlikely to respond positively to a recent US letter proposing comprehensive direct negotiations. A senior US official and an Iranian official told the New York Times on October 28 that US Vice President JD Vance sent Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Secretary Major General Mohsen Rezaei a letter through Qatari mediators that proposed comprehensive direct negotiations. Rezaei recently reiterated hardline negotiating positions, which were demands that the United States end the war on all fronts, release frozen assets, and lift the naval blockade before negotiations over anything else resume. These views are consistent with official Iranian state positions. (1/2)
Washington can change the messenger/ recipient a 100 times, but it’ll get nowhere if the demands remain maximalist and the message remains surrender dressed up as diplomacy.

It would undoubtedly be an intense military campaign, but I seriously doubt it would be a short one, given the scale and severity of Iran’s potential retaliation. More importantly, there is little reason to believe that even a devastating military campaign would force Tehran to capitulate or return to the negotiating table on Washington’s terms.

Netanyahu’s Political Dead End Could Be the preview for the Next War with Iran
One critical point that deserves far more attention is Netanyahu’s political predicament. He has no viable governing coalition, yet there is little reason to believe he has any intention of voluntarily giving up the prime minister’s office.
This creates a potentially dangerous situation. With no clear political path to remaining in power, Netanyahu may see another confrontation with Iran as an opportunity to fundamentally change the political equation. A national security emergency could put enormous pressure on his political rivals to join a national unity government under his leadership.
This is a very plausible scenario and one that should not be underestimated. The concern is not simply that Netanyahu might exploit another war for political future. It is that his inability to form a government, combined with his determination to remain prime minister, could create a powerful incentive to initiate or escalate a confrontation with Iran..
Any assessment of the likelihood of another war with Iran must take into account not only the military and strategic calculations, but also Netanyahu’s political survival.

Houthis say they attacked Saudi oil pumping stations, Riyadh airport as fighting intensifies
Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis said on Monday they had attacked Saudi Arabia's East-West crude oil pumping stations and Riyadh airport, as rising hostilities choke oil supplies and threaten to erupt into a larger conflict.
The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen said earlier it had destroyed two ballistic missile launchers in the capital Sanaa, including one used to fire a missile towards Riyadh that the coalition said it had intercepted.
There was no immediate Saudi confirmation of the Houthi attacks. (Reuters)
