Inclusion Canada welcomes several measures in the 2026 Federal budget that will help people with disabilities and their families manage rising living costs. However, we are disappointed that the budget fails to deliver meaningful improvements to the Canada Disability Benefit and other critical supports needed to reduce disability poverty.

We joined more than 150 community organizations across the country calling for disability benefit access reform in Canada.
The fix isn't only administrative. Canada needs an eligibility system that is accessible, rights-based, and co-designed with people with disabilities.

Many policy actions are called for in areas like school food programs, disability services, and affordable, secure housing.
Keep in mind the Toronto police budget for 2026 is $1.4 billion. The city has money. It is shameful how little we prioritize basic health and social services for our communities. This must change. @oliviachow.

It's no surprise that more than a third of food bank users are also on social assistance. OW rates have stagnated for years & ODSP remained frozen during much of the pandemic-era inflation crisis. Recipients have repeatedly said they cannot afford food at the rates they receive.
BREAKING: For the second year in a row, #Toronto recorded a historic 4.1M food bank visits, a 333% increase over 2019 and enough to fill the Rogers Centre 75x. @DailyBreadTO's new #WhosHungry2026 report reveals why hunger is becoming harder to escape ➡️ dailybread.ca/whoshungry RT

Please support your local food bank if you can.
And to the current elected folks with actual decision-making powers you MUST act on GUARANTEED BASIC INCOME & public grocery stores as part of the necessary response?
We must END these grocery monopolies!

When we say participating in the municipal elections is more important than ever, this is what we mean. Every year we ask food bank visitors from across the province to share the challenges they’re facing with their elected representatives – and this year, here are just a few issues they highlighted. The lived experiences of these food bank visitors shine a light on the realities we see throughout Ontario: more people are struggling to afford basic necessities like food and housing and need to turn to food banks to get by.
But decisions at all levels of government can make a meaningful difference for people and families facing hunger in our communities, and getting engaged by having informed conversations and casting your vote tomorrow is just one way we can all make an impact.

When 1 in 10 Toronto residents rely on a food bank, and 35% of food bank users hold multiple jobs, we need to do more to address the root causes of food insecurity and unaffordability.
With the team at Daily Bread Food Bank, we discussed long-term solutions to prevent seniors from becoming unhoused, and the need to replace the incarceration of unhoused people with humane, evidence-based solutions.
We need to ensure everyone has access to appropriate food and housing to live with dignity.
Thank you to Neil Hetherington and the entire team at Daily Bread Food Bank for your incredible work.
