A CIA contractor was arrested Friday for allegedly leaking top-secret national defense information to a romantic partner who allegedly published classified material on Substack, the Department of Justice announced.
Ian A. Brinksman, 42, of Washington, D.C., was arrested by the FBI following a search of his residence and charged with unlawfully transmitting national defense information, a violation of the Espionage Act punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
According to an FBI affidavit filed Friday in the Eastern District of Virginia, Brinksman allegedly accessed five classified intelligence reports between March and October that were outside the scope of his job responsibilities.

Thousands of police officers from across the country gathered in Philadelphia to honor Shane Seiber, a 40-year-old officer killed in the line of duty.
Seiber was fatally shot on October 10 while responding to a report of an armed man in West Philadelphia. His partner was also shot 12 times but survived.
During Tuesday's funeral, Seiber was posthumously promoted to sergeant, recognizing his 10 years with the Philadelphia Police Department and his military service, including two tours in Iraq.
The father of two leaves behind his wife, Lisa, and their young children, Finn and Emily.
